I wish I had seen the previous review that mentioned the elevator up the tower. Hopefully there will be another visit here in the future. This is one beautiful cathedral. Admission is free but I would gladly pay to visit. Some sections were closed while we were there, but there was more than enough to admire.

El Pilar is absolutely beautiful, and if you enjoy art and architecture, you will want to spend quite a while making your way around the building. General entrance is free; you can pay 3 euros to see a small relic museum inside, but in my opinion this one room display is definitely not worth the charge. You will want to... More

The Pilar is a magnificent building, especially seen from outside by the old bridge but also inside. We did not find information explaining history or art inside but it can be looked up before or after. We only spent 20 minutes inside and did not check if towers could be visited (probably not)

One of the biggest baroque churches on Earth - definitely worth visiting, even if you are not a fan of this era in the art history.

Basílica de Nuestra señora del Pilar looking so beautiful. Big problem is to get photo without people. You have to do that before ten o'clock

Spanish baroque church interiors are a bit of an acquired taste, as, befitting their new-world el dorado empire, gold is very much a theme, and there is absolutely no such thing as over-ornate. I find they tend to work best, though, in a more austere building, so that there is some dilution of the bling. Part of the problem with... More

A truly spectacular basilica. Don't miss going up the tower. It has wonderful views of the river below and the countryside around the whole city

The scale of this, vast, baroque extravaganza of a church is mind-blowing. It dominates the city centre, and particularly its side of the River Ebro with a riot of towers, turrets and finials. It's an emphatic testament of Marian devotion, and seems to underpin the local economy, judging by the number of bridal gown emporium dotted around the city centre.... More

An absolutely incredible place to visit. It seemed very popular with locals and tourists alike and the size and beauty of the ouside, and even more so the inside, was there for all to see. It is clearly a place of great spiritual importance but equally can be appreciated by those who are not are not necessarily moved in that... More
