This was one of the few flamenco shows open during our visit to Seville. The show was good, the guitar player in particular is really good. But the show loses a lot due to the ambience in the venue. It is literally just a room with a small stage and the dancer, a singer and the guitar player. For me it really took away from the experience even though the dancer was very talented.

We didn't want to spend a fortune on a flamenco tourist trap which you see advertised around the city so we decided to go with Alvarez Quintero. Our ticket for this show was 18 Euro for an hour performance and we really enjoyed it. Great value and the performance was powerful and emotional. However, only the first few rows would have been able to see the flamenco dancer's feet. So get there early if you would like to get the best seats.

Was recommended this venue for non-touristy flamenco by the extremely friendly and helpful Francisco at Hotel Alminar (2 doors down from this venue - will post a review of hotel when I finish my stay).

My first impression on entering was one of disappointment, confronted by a bunch of steel chairs in front of a very small and plain stage.

Then the guitarist and singer emerged, and the show started. I was blown away by the singer's voice and the guitarist's mastery. Finally the dancer emerged and the trio in combination was mesmerizing. The guitarist's solo performance was also masterful. The 1 hour ended suitably with a standing ovation.

Easily the best experience of my Euro trip so far...will be returning tomorrow night for sure...this time I'll get there EARLY since a late appearance meant a poor seating position. AND Ill bring my camera (you can take photos just before the end of the performance).

Think Ill be replacing much of my CD collection with Flamenco though seeing it live in Sevilla is no doubt incomparable.

So disappointed. I’m actually writing this review while the show is going on. The singer was horrible and sounded as she was struggling and had a cold. The dancer was good, But she only performed for 15 minutes, then there was the guitar show which was good. The show was mostly about the singer.
Not what I expected at all. I went to a flamenco show in Madrid two years ago and it was amazing. The dancing, The music, the dress of the dancer. This one was just disappointing.
I hate to leave a bad review, but

If my review is helpful..... please click helpful, thank you.

We had been in Seville four weeks before visiting this particular venue. We read good reviews although there was not a queue to go in like some of the other venues (which I think are probably just better at advertising).

We booked a few days before at €18 each. There were only about 20 people in the show and maybe if fuller (Seats about 80) there would have been more atmosphere.

The act was made up of the flamenco dancer, the singer and guitarist and they did 3 pieces together and then a couple of acts with just the singer or just the guitarist. They were all really good and the show was very theatrical.

You can buy drinks from a limited selection set out on a table, soft drinks in cans or sangria which was very nice and €3 for a plastic cup.

The only downside was the number of interruptions as people either came in late, the ticket sales lady going in and out and a group of what would appear guests arriving via the same entry..... this was just rather off putting throughout.

At the end of the show people were invited to stay behind if they wanted to participate in a flamenco class, we didn’t stay for this but thought it was a nice offer and not expected.

Great location.

This was a 45 minute show with four breaks. It was nothing more than what we see on the corners during the day, worth 5e.
We paid $76e with host discount.
Do not recommend.

I have already complained at Tanzania forum that some people have found the way to promote their business on TA. I don’t know how TA ranking system works but having this as one of the main Sevilla’s attractions is a joke.

This is a theater-like show in a rectangular room where they have managed to squize about 50 chairs. There are three performers: guitar player, a singer and a female dancer and they looked like they have never met before. No connection, interaction or support of each other.
Guitar player seemed to be absent and bored, almost like “do I have to stay here up to the very end” type. Singer would close his eyes to give impression of deep feelings behind his song. Female dancer was trying to bring some passion to the performance but with no support from other members whatsoever.

All in all, this is a poorly run business exploiting tourists need for good flamenco experience. I’ve seen street performers in Buenos Aires that were far more professional than these guys.

While walking in the western edge of the cathedral district, a hawker pressed small flyer in my hand. I took it without reading it and walked on. When I got to an uncongested area, I took a moment to glance at it and saw it advertised a Traditional Flamenco show every evening at 2100.The auditorium was only a 10 minute walk from my hotel (Vincii La Rabida) so I decided to take in the show. I walked back to the hawker and he explained the show was at a small (80 seat)auditorium. The cost was 17.50euro. Because of the small number of seats, he suggested that I make a reservation and asked for my first name. And that was that.
I left my hotel at 2030 and got to the area of the auditorium 10 minutes later. I walked back the narrow Alvarez Quintero street a few hundred yards until I saw a small sign and unmarked door. I went in and there was a ticket desk. They had my reservation and I was escorted into the very small intimate auditorium. Metal folding chairs faced a small stage. At 2045 the place was ¾ full. As a solo, I was able to get a single seat in the second row, 8 feet from the stage. By show time, the place was packed.
The performers were 3 in total, a guitarist, vocalist and female dancer. And the show was extraordinary. Powerful, passionate and driving. None of the flamenco neuvo theatrics. The dancer was not the willowy almost anorexic performers so popular in much of the west today. She was a powerful women, more peasant than aristocrat, with a pride in her bearing that was primal. You believed the dance. Without understanding a word of the lyric, you understood the dance. The guitarist and vocalist performed through the entire show. The dancer performed three displays and she and the audience were breathless at the end.
When the troupe received the applause at the end of each number, the guitarist acknowledged his guitar. If a poor workman blames his tools, a true master craftsman acknowledges his.
The emcee asked folks to turn off cell phones and warned against filming or taping the performance but promised a short period at the end of the show for photographs. They allowed pictureswith20 minutes left in the show and actually turned up the houselights to help the audience.
There are a lot of flamenco shows in Seville. I am told some of the after-hours clubs in Macarena can get pretty exciting. Some clubs offer dinner shows as well. But for pure traditional flamenco, this show is tops. There are plenty of restaurants in the area for after the show, try Las Escobas just down the street toward the cathedral.

Dear fellow travellers,
Although my wife and I have been to many a flamenco show when we visited Seville, sometimes with friends, we have never seen a better Flamenco Show than the one on January 9th.
This is a rather small place near to the cathedral, so easy to find.
Unlike all the other places, they don't serve dinner and push cheap wine in expensive bottles on you during the show.
This is just Flamenco in it's pure and undiluted form.
The guitar player was very good, as was the lady singer. But the dancers were truly breathtaking in their performance. They gave it their all, including their souls. It took our breath away. This is surely a place where we'll go back to. Because no dinner or refreshments are served (you could take your own), the price is very reasonable at 18 Euro per adult and 16 Euro for children and pensioners. The show takes over an hour and after that you can stay to learn a few steps and elegant Flamenco movements from one of the dancers.
The theatre was not full, so we could sit right in front. It was fantastic. Make a reservation with Jessica, the friendly young woman at reception, and don't miss this opportunity to be able to tell your friends that you have seen the real thing.
Have fun and drive carefully,
Frederik.
