It was superb, we went for a bike tour and it was full of stands and bars. So local and so authentic!

Yet another local market in Sevilla - I was there at the time when the majority of stalls were closed, but there were some fruit and veg ones open. This place hosts the fantastic vegan restaurant, Veganitessen and the equally fantastic bakery with sourdough bread, Picnic.

On the surface Mercado del Arenal looks really promising and it may well be. However when we visited there wasn't much going on, with many shops or stalls either being closed or not being very interesting. We have been to several similar Markets in other cities in Spain and have been very impressed. Not here.

Having visited many local markets in Spain this was at best average. Only half the stalls were open, yes it’s a local market and there were a lot of locals shopping but it lacked the atmosphere that we have experienced elsewhere. We stopped for a drink at one of the bars but moved on after one drink as it was frankly boring.
Not worth the effort unless you are are staying locally and need fresh Vegetables.

i enjoy markets and the local-er the better. this is a local market with plenty of vibrant sights and smells. lovely fresh produce from the regions land and sea. the fish smelt and looked fresh and the vegetables were huge and colourful. we didn't buy anything ( which drives my wife mad) but worth a look around none the less, and its cooler inside!
if you were looking top buy produce for a picnic in one of the fabulous parks/ gardens, then you could get some great produce here.

Can I give this zero stars? Because basically there is no market. A lot of shuttered up stalls. A few eating spots. I think they were open but really the only people/activity we saw was by the bike rental place. We headed over to the Triana market instead which was quite satisfactory (meaning there were actually open food stalls selling food to people-and lots of them).

This is not for the Arenal Market itself but for the Picnic bakery in one of the stalls. Their bread is fantastic homestyle bread made using sour dough. Crusty, chewy, and substantial. Not cheap but worth the price. Try the semilla (loaf with seeds) and the rolls. Their croissants and chocolatines are also excellent. Plus the people that work there are really nice. I think they have another bakery in Remedios.

This was a fairly typical market in an older area of Seville and although markets are always fun in Spain this was not as busy or vibrant as some.

I was hoping for a bit more bustle hear. The old station is a perfect spot for a more vibrant food scene. The biggest draw seemed to be McDonalds. Many shops were closed. Such a wonderful building, you’d hope for more.

Was hoping for more, but the majority of the stalls were not open both times we wandered through (once mid morning, once early afternoon). Maybe it’s busier in the evening? Did seem like there were quite a few lunch places, but fewer places selling produce/seafood/etc than I expected.
