- lquadrosSan Ramon, California173 contributionsAwesomeThis is undoubtedly the best and the most well known location to take a picture with the majestic Alhambra in the background. Nothing else gets even close to this. The thing is that it is incredibly crowded here, especially in the evenings. The key is to be patient and wait your turn and feel free to ask someone else to take a pic. The walk up here is challenging but a taxi here from the center is about 5 to 7 euros, cheap. Please do this if you want one of the most awesome pictures you will ever have.Visited January 2023Written 10 January 2023
- Rose ABrooklyn, New York6 contributionsYes, it's crowded...Yes, it's crowded for sunset but we found it still worth it. Everyone was in a great mood, and very friendly. Be sure to stay for while as it's lovely to see the change from sunset to full darkness. We'd been up in the daylight as well which is also good. Note that just to the left of it (as you're facing the Alhambra), is a lovely little mosque. The garden is worth a visit (at least during the day!)Visited January 2023Written 15 January 2023
- YO_LOOK_AT_MESan Antonio, Texas2,911 contributionsPhenomenal Location to View the Alcazar, Alhambra and Generalife from AfarThough there are supposed to be numerous miradors around the city, we ventured to this mirador due to multiple recommendations we saw. Though we got lost a bit trying to find it, the challenges were well worth it. Its situated perfectly across the Alhambra, Generalife and Alcazaba where you can view them from afar and at night, they’re lit up. Its best to plan on arriving at least 45 minutes or more before sunset if you wish to have a place to sit as it gets quite crowded the closer to sunset you get. Of interest nearby is the San Nicholas Church, a few restaurants, and later after sunset, you may be treated to a flamenco dance show and local artisans selling their wares.Visited September 2022Written 26 January 2023
- Cloudatlas2013Boston, Massachusetts126 contributionsExcellent views of Granada, nice walkWe took taxi as it was quite uphill. About 7 euros. Timed it for sunset. Found place very crowded as we arrived about 15 mins before sunset. Would recommend have dinner at one of the restaurants, lean back and wait for the sunset. We were full so missed decided to just go for view. Views of the Alhambra are really great. Street performers keep things lively. Afterwards we walked down, down, down to city center. Lots of people walking so it felt really safe. And one can always check directions from people. Very pleasant and interesting to walk through neighborhood. Highly recommended.Visited January 2023Written 5 February 2023
- Mich EjidoEl Ejido, Spain7 contributionsBusyWe have been many times, and at different times of the year. If you go early in the day, there are fewer people but from lunch time onwards it's always full of people. The views are amazing but you can also get similar views from the gardens of the mosque close by. If you get the chance to pop inside the church, it's worth it as it is a complete contrast to the other, more ornate churches you will find in Granada.Visited March 2023Written 5 March 2023
- Rob L7 contributionsWorth the effort! After eating dinner in the Albaicin area we decided to make the uphill walk to the Mirador later that evening to see the Alhambra illuminated from across the valley. It was worth the effort. A couple of nice restaurants up there too which I wish we had eaten at - great views of the Alhambra from them I imagine. Next time!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 March 2023
- WanderingOttersonsDenver, Colorado1,353 contributionsThe BEST views of Alhambra and the mountains behindA must stop in Granda for the most fantastic views of Alhambra. Completely packed around sunset for the best viewing, it is not a bad spot for most parts of the day (when the sun is not directly behind Alhambra and ruining photos with the glare). At the busy times, you will also likely get some street music to set the tone for your viewing.Visited January 2023Written 21 March 2023
- A Midlife AdventureDursley, United Kingdom1,313 contributionsA view to remember foreverWe had taken ourselves on a spontaneous walk round the old town of Granada and eventually having walked through an archway that is part of the old city walls from Plaza Largo we found ourselves at the back of the Church of San Nicolas. As we came around the side of the church there before us was an unforgettable panorama. We had chanced upon the Mirador de San Nicolas. I honestly could not believe my eyes. The whole of the Alhambra Palace was laid out before me with the beautiful snow capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada nestled behind. Suddenly everything I had read and seen the day when visiting the place made sense. The Palace dominated the skyline, leaving everything below in its wake. There are not many views in the world that you see and know are going to stay in your memory forever but this is one of them. It probably ranks in my top three! Finding a vacant stone seat and ignoring the crowds I settled down and just stared in front of me. Feeling completely at peaceVisited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 April 2023
- DocAntEast Grinstead, United Kingdom155 contributionsViews of the Alhambra are magnificentGranada is a lovely city - a mix of modern, stylish, historic and fascinating. Of course the Alhambra viewed from across the valley or explored in all its beauty is the highlight for us tourists and the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada with snow topped mountains is magnificent. If you are visiting Seville hop on a bus or train and spend a couple of days here. You won’t regret it!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 April 2023
- EmanpeeSydney, Australia2,805 contributionsWorth the uphill walk for views.Nice views after steep uphill walk from downtown. Can also take local bus route 31, or taxi if not up for the 'hike'. Church not open but is not large. Go for views, sunset would be very good as look across to the Alhambra. Local entertainment while we were there. All downhill on return walk.Visited April 2023Written 28 April 2023

Best view from the top. You can see Alhambra and Nasrid palaces.
There are lots of stairs to climb but totally worth the effort.

This is a must see view but can be completed easily within 2 hours from the centre. The plaza has great views of the Alhambra across the valley. An added bonus was the 1st snow on the Sierra Nevada. Quite a magical view although actually outside in the plaza there is little to do but look and contemplate. You can also go up using a small public bus from the centre. You pay on the bus and the journey takes around 10 minutes. Quite a journey also speeding through almost impassable streets on the way up. Of course this means that you can find your own way down through the small streets which is a trip in itself.

With Iglesia de San Nicolas and the view overlooking Alhambra as the key features, this plaza is a perfect place to spend some time. Street entertainers added to the atmosphere as did the constant pleasure of people taking in the breathtaking views

From the "not-too-spacious" viewing area of this mirador which yes was a little surprise having come up with an expectation of a sizeable area but also for the time of visit having been around noon was just being with quite few people so "not an issue" for the view I would say (might not be so at like "peak times" due to a limited space), it's just an awesome "whole-length" view (from right to left) of the Alhambra from its west-side cluster of structures (Nasrid, Carlos V & Alcazaba) through the long stretch of gardens in the middle (the gardens themselves not quite visible from here though) all the way to the Generalife Palace (all by itself on the far-left side of the view), and yes seeing the whole length of that great complex from here was somewhat of a "satisfying realization" of my visit around that "vast sprawling" site (just on the day before the visit here).
And apart from the Alhambra view is also that of the city on the far-right (but just a pretty limited view of it), then after turning back from the viewing area was a walk around the "small church" right beside (the church facing the area but was closed at the time) and arriving (after just a few-minute walk) at the "small mosque" called Mosque of Granada with its own great view of the Alhambra (a view just as comprehensive as the one from the Mirador as mentioned above, and actually a better view from the mosque I would say for an "all-inclusive pic" of the Alhambra between its two ends) and where there are also a small front garden & a small inner courtyard around the mosque buildings.
Arriving after about a 20-minute ride on a mini-bus from near the Plaza Isabel la Catolica (with a sitting statue of Queen Isabella above a monument with also a standing statue likely of Christopher Columbus) at the city center down below, it was just the walk afterward for about half an hour (through the up-and-down ways of the high-ground Sacromonte area of the city) to the "caves museum" Museo Cuevas del Sacromonte (with not too many caves but with nice displays of the "cave-living life").

We stayed for one night in a property just next to the Mirador which I wouldn't recommend doing as it is so noisy well into the early hours. Apart from that it is a fantastic place to get a great view of the Alhambra. It's a steep walk up from the city centre which takes about 20 minutes but lots of people come up in a taxi so there are plenty to take you back down again if you want. A few bars and cafes nearby.

Be at this location in the late afternoon, as the sun sets. The location alone gives you an awesome view of the Alhambra!

On our recent family visit to Granada, we enjoyed our visit to the Albaicin. Walking along the cobbled alleys, viewing the villas with their Moorish decoration and gardens. We then strolled up to the Mirador de San Nicolas for a magical view over the rooftops of the Alhambra. Even better when there is a sunset glowing backdrop.

This is the sunset spot to get a great image of the Alhambra. You may want to get there early to get a good spot along the wall.

Before heading over to the Alhambra, this was a gorgeous way to enter Granada. Despite the rain, we enjoyed the walks along the narrow streets and feeling like locals in the neighborhood.

Hi, somebody told me there’s a train that runs from Seville to Granada for 1hr 30mins, but I couldn’t find it in Renfe site or in googlemaps.
Does anybody here knows about it & where or how to book?

Is there a way to get here without walking. We will be travelling with a baby. Can we bring a stroller?

Drive to the top (cab or rental) - lots of parking. Then walk down and admire the view. If you feel the need to go down a few steps you can but its pretty awesome from the top and with a baby I'd say that would be a great compromise.
