Worth a visit

Like its counterpart in Madrid, this museum has a small but very nice collection. There are some lovely works by Sorolla that make the trip worthwhile alone.

We spent a morning going through this museum. For me it was just lovely to walk in the gallery and see a room of evidently Spanish paintings in this beautiful building. Not to be missed.

Like its big brother in Madrid, this museum has a very comprehensive collection, focusing in this case on Spanish painters. While some of the earlier works are a bit chocolate box, tourist pictures, the later art was more to my taste. The building itself is bright and airy, and there's a small terrace on the second floor where you can... More

Very nice permanent collection. I could see 19th century paintings, naturalist, romantic, religious themes from Spanish painters. You can see paintings from local areas, sea, bull & horses... There were also a Japanese collection. There was unfortunately no temporary collection on the top floor at the time. Entry 6€. The building itself is also very nice, it is built like... More

The Carmen Thyssen museum is just of the Plaza de la Cónstitucion in Malaga. The building, although old, feels very modern inside with clean fresh lines and a light airy feel. The art is varied and there was a good selection of paintings on three floors A small roof terrace offered a break and a place to rest our feet.... More

This is a very pleasant museum, with a large part of the collection devoted to lesser known artists and many scenes of traditional Andalucian life. Not a large museum, but definitely worth the time if you love Malaga and Andalucian culture. Time your visit to enjoy a meal at nearby Bodeguita de Carlos, located in a tiny cul de sac... More

First a tip - free admission every Sunday from 5pm (normally ticket costs EUR 6). We were lucky enough to be in Malaga on Sunday so we benefitted from the offer but had to wait about 20 minutes in a queue in front of the building. Anyway we managed it and entered the museum or I should say art gallery.... More

Well curated, nicely laid out, excellent display space. One of the top museums in Malaga. Make sure to drop onto the small, but well stocked gallery shop and if you're there over the lunch hour definitely go to the cafe/restaurant. The courtyard is lovely on a warm day and the food is reasonable with an excellent selection.

Having visited Malaga several times before - Picasso museum and castle etc we thought it would be good to visit this museum. However our cruise arrived on a Monday and we were very disappointed having found the museum to discover that it was not open. What a pity.
