When you look online for buses is Malaga you will see that we have a lot of connections. The problem is that organization is so bad, buses are always late.

No complaints, went from Malaga to Nerja in july 2023. The bus was exactly on time and the drivers were helpful.

Built by the architect José Seguí in 1985, the Malaga bus station no longer seems modern and, most importantly, functional. Of course, it fulfills its main purpose: it carries hundreds of thousands of locals and tourists along the Costa del Sol. There are 39 bus stops for the main operators ALSA, Avanza and others. Since much of the traffic comes to the region from the airport, which is 9 km away, you can get there by bus directly, or by train from the nearby Málaga-María Zambrano train station. The center and the sea port with the cruise terminal are just two kilometers away. We reached the Cathedral on foot, but you can go two stops by bus. If you leave Malaga in the evening and leave your rented apartment in the morning, or if you have a time gap between buses and trains, you can use the station's Luggage storage. It is open from 6: 30 to 1: 30. each piece of Luggage costs 3.50 euros. Now about the disadvantages. We visited the station twice, when we changed trains from Granada to La linea and arrived from La linea to Malaga. The station is inconvenient for transit passengers. Very few seats available. They are located on bus platforms, but they are not located in the bus station building. Of course, this is the South, not Scandinavia or Russia, you will not freeze, but... There are no cafes or restaurants either, only vending machines. The bus station building is dark and gloomy. I don't want to stay here for a minute. Perhaps that was the point of the architect?

We already booked our bus trip to Sevilla online, so the only thing we had to do was being here on time and getting int the right bus.
The bus terminal is located directly next to the main train station (Maria Zambrano), approx. 20 minutes walk from central Malaga (or take the train from Alameda Centro, one stop).
It looks a bit chaotic indeed, not everything is indicated clearly and it looks like getting back into the 20th century.
The bus terminal is accessible for everybody, bus travelers as well as for persons with other intentions. So be careful and watch your belongings.

Like stepping back in time to the 1970s. No investment; buses use paper flip charts to signify destination. 🤣 Spanish inefficiency at its absolute worst. Queues very long for ticket counter. Organised chaos. Bring your rescue remedy or consider taking an e-scooter! 🤯 😝

The bus station is about a 30 minute walk from the town centre so easily walk-able there is also a local bus service to the Malaga Park.

Easy place to find your bus from clear notice boards and a good variety of services to surrounding cities

We used this bus station to catch buses (ALSA, Avansa/Portillo) to different cities (Granada, Seville) over several days-ALSA best. It’s walkable to/from our AC Palacio Hotel when weather permits. The station is clean and well maintained. You feel safe here. The station has a cafeteria and shops in addition to bus company ticket counters. What is great is that it’s located right next to Malaga main train station Maria Zambrano which is another modern clean, beautiful station with many shops & fast food restaurants (McDonald Pizza Hut etc), and taxi stand outside. There is underground access between the two stations (also a metro subway station).

Buy a ticket with the AVANZA company to Marbella. The seller told me that a bus leaves at 2:30 p.m. and that's it. I was not informed that this bus was going to make many stops to Marbella after being direct or semi-direct like the usual ones.
Now 4 in the afternoon: I left Malaga at 2:30 p.m.
An hour and a half later I am still 14 km from Marbella
Wasting my time because of a lazy employee who would rather chat with his colleague than inform me of the travel time or offer me another faster schedule.
That employee does not lose his salary. It doesn't do its job. That they do it!!!!!

They didn't refund me for 2 tickets that should have been returned to me for the sum of €40, what can I say, cheap thieves, never go there especially with Avanza buses, terrible buses and timetables that don't respect the pre-established times in the ticket Thieves!
