- Djordje MBelgrade, Serbia1,220 contributionsTime traveling placeReally beatiful town. It's hard to see and feel enerything through cellphone. It feels like walking on the streets at least 200-300 years ago. Everything is well preserved, clean, calm and peacful. Every single store, caffe or restaurant has it own charm, and worth visiting. Impressed by Cordoba, really worth every minute, every meter of walkingVisited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 9 November 2023
- Alison BFleet, United Kingdom184 contributionsBeautifulTook the train from Seville after a friend recommendation. Train tickets were very expensive and we needed ID to book them but glad we went. Old part of city was about 10-15 minutes walk from station. It was beautiful, particularly the bridge and the walls of flowers. Spent an afternoon strolling around and found a lovely restaurant for a bite to eat. Lovely gist shops too.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 February 2024

Good budget price, ideally located to explore historic Cordoba. Room was clean, well equipped and quiet. Hotel didn't have much personality but we knew that when we researched it. If visiting Cordoba again we would return because of its locationVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 March 2024
- BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia19,409 contributionsBeautiful compact and flat townCordoba is an easy to navigate town with all the attractions packed in a relatively small area. Best of all it's flat so you can cover all in a day. Unmissable is the Mezquita as the Nr 1 attraction, then the Alcazar and the Roman bridge. In between are many small and picturesque streets in Jewish quarter, cute cafes and shops, etc....Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 August 2024

We visited on a Tuesday in November and it was not crowded at all. The trick is to get there early. If you are at this place by 9:30AM on a week day, you will be able to enjoy all it has to offer with minimal tourist interference. On weekends all bets are off… you maybe shoulder to shoulder with other tourists after 10AM. The narrow cobblestone streets are charming and well taken care of. The city is clean and safe, and there are a variety of shops, cafes, cafe shops, and restaurants to satisfy an array of desires. The staff at all tourist attractions we visited were kind and helpful. Cordoba is definitely one of our favorites in Andalusia. We will be back…

Although we visited in November the place is overcrowded with tourists. It is like the Carls Brdige in Prague or Marc Square in Venice or the Rambla in Barcelona. All the small streets have shops selling plastic tourist stuff and it is difficult to move around because of the thoursands of people.

Walking through the historic city centre is like travelling back in to time. Splendid buildings, narrow streets and a beautiful Roman bridge: there's so much to see here, that i will probably keep you busy for days. During our visit, there were hardly any tourists so that made it even more special.

One of its kind, mixture of Arab and Christian cultures with some Jewish influence. Lots to see in terms of architecture and experience in terms of culinary options.
Historic center of Cordoba has many attractions with Mezquita Cordoba( a grand former mosque) tops the list. Historic center is full of narrow cobbled streets with many shops and restaurants. It has many colorful Andalusian patios in Flowery streets, a Jewish quarter with a very old synagogue, centuries old Arab baths, an archaeological museum and much much more to see. As this historic city was ruled by Muslims for many centuries, Moorish architecture makes this great city very distinctive. I would advise anyone who wish to visit, should read Cordoba's history before visiting this amazing city.

Anchored by the Mezquita Mosque, the historic district is a bustling collection of hotels, souvenir shops, stores, cafes and narrow streets. Felt very safe. Foot traffic dies off after sunset. Great place to stay in Cordoba.

After the end of the trip in Andalusia I can say that in my opinion Cordoba is the most beautiful.
The city has a special character that has been preserved over the years, something you don't see in Seville or Ronda, etc.
The tour of the city gives a very pleasant feeling of a past that still exists in the city.
The Cordoba Cathedral is special in its architecture, motifs that are unique to it in the characterization of its special ceilings.
Alcazar, which also has pleasant fountains and gardens, the passage between which creates a pleasant atmosphere of calm and peace.
The Roman bridge overlooks the river that crosses the city and the amazing sight of the cathedral at night is stunning.
There is of course the Jewish motif of the city.
The Rambam statue, the Jewish Synagogue and the Museum of Sephardic Judaism.
The whole area is very reminiscent of Morocco, so we realized on this trip that Spanish deportees actually brought Andalusian culture to Morocco.
The shops, clothes, shoes, kaftan and even souvenirs that everything looks like in Morocco.
Of course, the whole area is dotted with quality and pleasant restaurants and hotels, mostly in the style of the cathedral.
We spent two days in the city and it still seems to me that we didn't see everything.

many thanks to visit in the old town and around. Get a organized tour, it will make your life life much easier and you may learn a lot (faster and Q/A). I paid 50 Euros for many monuments and I considered a far price 4.5 hours ride... Get water hat and good shoes?..

One of the most interesting cities I have visited. Here is a mixture of the history of the caliph, the Christian kings and the Jews who once lived in the city. Apart from its sights, the historical center is also famous for its many restaurants and bars, as well as small shops.

Setting aside the amazing historic content, which was basically put in place hundreds of years ago - the service levels in hotels and restaurants are very poor.
We booked a (reviewed as very good) steak restaurant this evening for dinner at 8. It rained. Customer levels are low. We turned up, it’s shut, as are most restaurants. That puts pressure on the rest. We ended up in a pizza restaurant. I got my main (a bad pizza - not the juicy steaks we’d starved ourselves for all day). My husband’s meal just didn’t arrive at all. THIS IS THE SECOND RESTAURANT! We paid up and left.
A good tapas taverna helped us out in the end - but the feeling of being treated as a passing commodity by these people and our hotel (one of the best rated in the Jewish old town) and the service industry generally means we’ll be warning friends off visiting in favour of other cities in Europe.

We look at cities by searching for the geocaches hidden in them. So we do not only run after the tourist-spots, but discover new nooks and crannies of a city. Cordoba with its many small and narrow streets and alleys offers in this respect enormously much worth seeing.

We’re driving from Granada to Seville and want to stop off in Cordoba on the way. I understand that you cannot drive in the old town. Are there parking stations where you can walk from?
Written 31 December 2018
Hi
You cannot drive through the old town, but there is parking just outside it. There is also a hop on hop off bus that goes through parts of the old town, you might be able to get this from the train station.
I hope you have a great time.

Are the shops and restaurants in the historic city center open on Sunday?
Written 7 February 2017
Yes, they are, the best is El Caballo Rojo

Hi
is there a free car park close to the mezquita cathedral or where can we car park for the day if the interesting sites are close to each others?
many thanks in advance
Written 7 December 2016
You would need to pay for parking but it is not expensive. Around the centro you will see the Roman Bridge and the Calahorra Tower. There is shopping and a great number of restaurants.Since there are pick pockets carry your wallet in frnt pocket. Safe travels.

For a restaurant that offers excellent food, in lovely surroundings in the narrow streets of the old town, at very reasonable prices, visit Las Piconeras, C/Corregidor Luis La Cerda, 37, close to the Mezquita. TeL: 957 490 524. No live music here, but local bands / groups perform (During the season) in the surrounding bars and squares. Hope this helps.

The Cathedral is certainly a must but Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos on the city walls is also well worth a visit. The Gardens there is so beautiful.
Also wander in Juderia (the Jewish quarter) and visit the Sefardic House, beautifully preserved and the historic information boards are fascinating. There is a tour available but it is as good to wander. It isn't large, so you could easily fit this in during a day.
Don't bother with the Patio gardens it is not worth squashing through the narrow courtyard to see some geraniums.
The most memorable attraction for us was Madinat al-Zahra. It is situated just outside Cordoba, there is a coach which runs regularly and you can buy tickets for that and the tour from your hotel. You will be met by a superb guide in the Coach carpark by the museum and he will escort you on a second short coach ride to the archeological site of the incredible Moslem city built around 1200 years ago. A great deal of remains have been exposed and it is a really interesting tour. The Museum is also excellent.
