This place was close to our hotel so we walked to it and the same name park across it.
A beautiful Baroque facade drew our attention, so we learnt it used to be a medieval Monastery, but now it serves for some city administration purposes.

the place is a must
it was the location of the meeting I was attending
Beautiful and historical but just freezing ! the breaks took place outside and even in a sunny day we just froze. A bit of organization would overcome the problem

Just opposite Plaza Colon,an imposing pinkish façade, richly decorated with nearly life-size inbuilt statues,basking in the warm sunlight of a late October morning arrested my eyesight. There I was standing in front of the very place I had read a lot about, wishing to visit it one day.Never did it cross my mind that my longed-for chance may have been ruined by....formalities.
Taking the risk to bother you, for which I wholeheartedly apologize in advance, let me explain,please: Since visits/solo or group are only allowed on pre-agreed days and timing, you need to send an application request to the Protocol Office at least 2 weeks in advance for getting fully informed of the terms.Although I had followed through all of it , on my arrival the ladies at the reception desk were completely in the dark. Showing them the e-mail exchanges between them and me, at last they got convinced of my having a pre-agreed appointment and permitted me to walk in and wait for the officer-guide that was supposed to welcome me. The initial shock overcome, I was happy to admire at length and ease the stunning inner courtyard framed by lavishly ornate colonnades in coloured marble, mostly pink,and the central fountain - all of it the master work of Alonso de Sandoval.
Hopeless and a bit angry for waiting in vain for more than half an hour, as nobody was coming to show me the way,I went to the Protocol Office to be told what I was supposed to do. There, in a face-saving attempt, a gentle lady, obviously embarrassed, offered to guide me on a kind of tour.
We started going up a big black marble staircase to the upper portico - some noteworthy Roman mosaics all along the way - just to get in the Plenary Hall/17th century tapestries on the walls, which is the venue of the Council's meetings.Again downstairs and outside, in the Patio del Reloj and its famed sun dial.
That was all. Despite that, I couldn't be angry, at least I could get an idea; moreover, I couldn't help thanking the lady for a precious tip that was to be my day's reward: the adjoining Church of St Mary the Mercy, where Columbus, when in the city, used to beg God for mercy before setting out at sea, was open to visit during the evening mass/7 hrs p.m.Quite a joy to the eye and mind this rather small church with a Latin cross layout; other remarkable features - barrel vaulting ceiling with lunettes, polychrome medallions and half-relief busts of saints, frescoed choir, beautiful Baroque altarpiece.
All in all, no reason for regrets.

I consider the Palacio de la Merced as the most beautiful Baroque building in Cordoba. The chapel is still being restored after a madman set fire to it in the past. It was a former convent, the Convent of La Merced, where Columbus stayed. There is a beautiful patio, staircase, and church. Most of it is a Provincial Government building now. I think the building is very elegant.

While heading on our way to the centre of the city of Cordoba we stumbled upon this amazing beautiful facade although I think the site was closed.

I have found the place on TA and loved the architecture, so i just came to take a pic. The place itself looks good from the outside, but i guess it was closed for visits at this moment as there was no-one around and all the doors were closed

I am not sure if visitors are permitted to to visit inside this mansion as it is now home to the Provincial Government of Cordoba, It would be great if it were accessible.

This is away from most of the Cordoba sights but is definitely worth the walk. However who thought it was a good idea to put a wacking great lamppost in front of it making a real challenge for photographs? It's hard enough with the passing traffic to get a clear view!
