About
The 48-hectare Park on the Ilm is a marvellously landscaped garden situated on the edge of Weimar’s historic downtown. It was here that Duke Carl August and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe made their gardening ideas a reality. They created a walkable work of art with diverse views of the landscape, park structures and numerous places to sit down and contemplate. Today, the Park on the Ilm continues to offer visitors a place to relax, learn and enjoy nature’s beauty.

it is a really nice place for chill out, jugging, BBQ and pets friendly. You can ride your bike from north to the south of Weimar which is connecting Belvedereschloss to Ehringsdorf. On Ehringsdorf you can visit Weimar beer brewery factory and on Belvederer the castle and museum which is nice. It takes about 30-45 min to go from north to south depends on your speed.

It’s strange that this park is so incredibly dull considering that it’s located in one of Germany’s finest old citys.

You’ll find Goethes garden house + garden here - and also treasures for geology lovers - but for ordinary people the park offers limited fun, sorry to say.

This is a great park -- probably the nicest park I've seen. It follows the Ilm, and is a short walk from the center of the old town (perhaps 200 meters), with numerous smaller areas separated by landscaping. There are vistas, relaxing benches in ones and twos throughout the park, sculpture, multiple museum-level attractions (Goethe's garden house and the Roman house), fields, and paths. In the summer, the weather is often beautiful.

After reading the great reviews we decided to visit the park. It's huge and whilst we did initially lose our way finding the Garten house we stumbled across a Russian graveyard which in the frost was thought provoking. The park is vast and beautiful. So many people were there just enjoying the tranquility. Great place!

Parks don't really get any better than this - and I really am not that much of a fan of wandering through parks.

But walking through this particular park is a memorable experience at all times of year. It is beautiful in every season. Summer evenings are bliss - Goethe's Garden House, Liszt's House, the Bauhaus centre, the Shakespeare Statue, little paths along the Ilm, the Castle, people picnicking... Pure heaven.

Don't miss it.

It is such a central part of this beautiful city.

The scene was like walking in the park back in the 1800’s. Truly a picturesque feeling and moment with the afternoon light pervading the trees and reflecting off the still waters of the river surrounding the park.

A walk in this beautiful park should be part of any visit to Weimar. Large lwns, beatiful trees and the lovely river Ilm. Invites to reading Goethe or Schiller and thus complete the visits of their homes.
Certainly visit Goethes Gartenhaus: it gives good insights in his first years in Weimar.
