Duke Ernst August of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach had a Baroque summer residence including an orangery, pleasure garden and labyrinth built here between 1724 and 1748. During the winter months Schloss Belvedere's main buildings are not open to the public. However, the extensive gardens (43 acres of parkland) and some of the subsidiary buildings are.

This could be a nice museum, but at present works are done. The orangerie (and garden) is nice, but the Chateau itself is pretty outdated. It is nice to see, but not really a must see in Weimar.

The summer palace is an amazing building which houses the china and glass collections rather than be furnished as it would have appeared at the time when it was a royal residence. The orangerie is staggering in its size and the gardens interesting.

We have not been inside, as we visited the Schloss Schönbrunn, Hofburg and Kunsthistorisches Museum already, so we have just walked around in the front- and back garden of the palace, which we enjoyed. You have a nice view over the city from the backside garden and quite a lot of benches were you can sit and enjoy the sun,... More

Even in April before anything was really blooming you could tell that this was a special place. A lot of love, care and attebtion has gone into making this a really good place to visit, its big, sprawling, tasteful and interesting, Well worth a few hours to unwind.

It is one of the nice places which you can visit in weimar especially during spring and summer, if you be lucky sometimes there are opera or theater playing there which make it a must to go there :)

The flower exhibition was a real disappointment. It reportedly opened on Good Fiday, yet half the flowers were half or totally wilted on Easter Sunday. If the castle possesses such huge glasshouses, one would expect more spring flowers outside for the Easter crowds to see, instead of just a handful. The tiny old door is a funny entrance to the... An amazing Schloss. The thing that remains steadfast in my memory is the garden theatre. It is completely built from hedges and the stage has wings and dressing rooms etc...all created from hedge. Amazing.

Very accessible from the city centre by tram. You must visit the gardens regardless of any museum visit. Fantastic water features and interesting sculptures and then there is the museum itself with a terrific art collection including of course the Klimts
