I found this church most impressive from the outside. Inside it is mostly white washed. Some of the side chapels are nicely ornamented, and the crusifix above the alter is impressive. What I liked the most however was the very modern stained glass window in the eastern wall.

The cathedral is impressive with the bricks on the outside and the inside is very large. However, the amount of interesting objects is rather small, much has been destroyed in the Second World War. Still, a grand building.

Beautiful Old cathedral, which has been destroyed during the war. A lot has been renovated, but the part around the altar still need some work.
Wonderful chapels, ikons, and especially the clock inside the Church is wonderful. We happened to be there at 11, where we Saw a skeleton figure striking a Bell for each nummer of the hour. A little morbid, but …

Beautiful huge gothic cathedral, worth to enter for little exploration. A must visit when in Lübeck.

Lübecker Dom is a large brick-built Lutheran cathedral in Lübeck, Germany, part of the Lübeck UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral was founded in 1173 by Henry the Lion to serve the Diocese of Lübeck. It was completed around 1230 in Romanesque style, but between 1266 and 1335 the cathedral was converted into a Gothic-style building with side-aisles raised to the same height as the main aisle. Seriously damaged by a Royal Air Force bombing raid (28-29 March 1942), the cathedral was reconstructed over several decades. The reconstruction was completed only in 1982. The cathedral houses numerous works of art such as the 17 metre high Triumphal Cross by Bernt Notke (1477), the pulpit and the imposing Lettner Clock Lettner, also known as the Rood Screen or Choir Screen, this ornate partition made of wood, stone or wrought iron is a characteristic of late medieval church architecture. The carvings which decorate the rood screen are also by Notke. Since the war, the famous altar of Hans Memling has been in the medieval collection of the St. Annen Museum, but notable polyptychs remain in the cathedral. In the funeral chapels of the southern aisle are Baroque-era memorials by the Flemish sculptor Thomas Quellinus.

Despite being covered in scaffolding on one side of the cathedral, Lübeck’s cathedral is impressive. The cathedral was bombed during the war so much of it was reconstructed, inside it looks a little blander than most major cathedrals in Western Europe but the size is very impressive particularly the organs located at the back of the building. There are information boards around the building explaining the history and various projects the cathedral is undergoing. Upon entry you have to buy a ticket to enter ranging from 2 euros to 1.50 for children and students, I think this is a little cheeky as many religious sites are donation based, but it’s not a lot so it’s cool

Lübeck Cathedral is a large brick-built Lutheran cathedral in Lübeck, Germany UNESCO World Heritage Site, founded in 1173 by Henry the Lion. The cathedral completely burned down during the air raids in 1942. Reconstruction of the cathedral took several decades, and was completed in 1982. Lübeck Cathedral houses numerous works of art such as the 17 meter high Crucifix, a magnificent big organ, the pulpit, and the imposing Lettner clock. Definitely worth a visit.

Must visit church in Luebeck with interesting history. At least to me it was interesting to visit most/all of the Luebeck churches to get a complete view from the history of the town and religions. Cathedral, obviously, is one of the most interesting sights in Luebeck

I went to the cathedral with my 9 year old daughter and we were both blown away but this experience! This is a very beautiful cathedral which has so many thing to look at and like a cathedral should be: It's huge.
When we were there somebody was playing on the organ and though I'm not really into this kind of music it was beautiful. We both just sat down, listened and really enjoyed the music, the sound and the acoustics of this great building.
Next time I go to Lübeck I have to get back to the cathedral and see it again. I can only recommend visiting this place if you're ever in Lübeck!

This is the main Lubeck Cathedral dating back to as early as 12 cent. It has two towers (with an iron support between them) out of total of 7 on Lubeck old town panorama. Here, you cannot climb any of two (for that visit the St. Peter's).
Likewise all others it was heavily damaged during WWII bombing, but restored later.
The last renovations are still in progress, but you can visit inside and see the old wooden Altar along with the Astronomic clock. Entrance is free.
