The Puppet Theater Museum was established in 1982 by collector Fritz Fey and preserves a unique collection dealing with the theme of Puppet Theater. Belonging in its inventory are a variety of puppets, props, theater scenery, and placards, as well as musical instruments from the continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe. A collection acquisition conducted in 2010 on behalf of the Possehl Stiftung documented more than 30,000 exhibits. Some objects are up to 300 years old. The collection of Lübeck’s Puppet Theater Museum is internationally known in expert circles. The Museum finds itself adjacent to Lübeck’s Puppet Theater where modern pieces are staged for children and adults.

The museum was slightly quaint and basic but on the other hand very interesting and well worth a visit. A proper visit will take around 2 hours and is suitable for adults and children. Not suitable for disabled people as it's all stairs.

Just amazing, the history of world theatre puppets. From everywhere around the world. Leave yourself at least an hour or so to wander through. Lovely coffee shop and puppets of all types available for purchase in the first shop. It was an accidental find and...More

This is a fascinating museum, and both adults and children will learn something about puppets and their development. The history of Pinocchio was a real eye-opener for me. The museum is very well laid out, leading the visitor through different time lines and different societies...More

Here is a small, compact museum devoted to the history and artists of "puppentheater"--puppets, marionettes and some novel variations from many cultures proving the universal appeal of this form of theater. More than a survey of European puppetry, there are fascinating and colorful displays of...More

We knew little about puppets, but now we know a lot! Here are examples from all over the world and in a wonderful almost maze like setting. There is obviously great love for this art form and we found it interesting an enlightening.

Do not just visit the museum, but instead visit any of the performances - ANY! It is a fall back in time - even into childhood! Very charming!

I have not been in this museum, for I passed there in the evening. But please have a look into the street and side streets. They are so gorgeous with their brick stone walls!

In a country where puppet shows are part of its culture this is a great collection of puppets from both Germany and around the world. If it is raining head here.

Fascinating display of puppets from around the world. Should not be missed. Not just a way of passing the time on a rainy day. Look out for the puppets, which are intended to be caricatures of an Englishman and a Scotsman.
