One of the most beautiful buildings in town, nicely restored after war damage. Since it is the city hall, it is located in the absolute center of the old town. Bit plaza in front where there is a little market. You can take a tour of the Rathaus.

This historic Rathaus has a very unique architecture, including darker bricks in stark contrast to the typical red brick structures found throughout Lübeck. We were here too late in the day to take a tour, but enjoyed walking the outside perimeter of the building.

The arched passthroughs were very interesting and we really appreciated the ornate balcony room with cross-hatched windows. Arrive before 4pm on a weekday if you want to see the interior of this working town hall.

Wanted to visit this take the tour with my family, the guy at the entrance, (who seems to be the guide in the tour) started saying offensive and racist comment again my country. I have many German friends and lived in Germany for two years and I know not all the people are like him. But I don’t understand how someone who works in a public and touristic position can have that mindset. I hope he change his behavior or gets removed from that position… I didn’t have the opportunity to get his name but he is a guy without hair and uses glasses.

The worst experience that I had in my life. The guide was disrespectful l to my family and me. He asked where we come from and we come from Colombia so he started making really bad jokes about cocaine, making signs and noises of how the people consume this types of drugs, and also jokes about why we speak Spanish (referring to colonialism). We were very offended so we spoke with his colleague and he denied everything, he changed completely how things happened and was very loud to interrupt us every time we wanted to say something. It ruined completely our trip. My sister was crying after that. Nobody expect to be treated that way. We wanted to learn about the place and we received racism and xenophobic treatments.

Lubeck Rathaus, the Town Hall, is located on the main city square, just at the back side of the remarkable St. Mary's Church.
It's a wide open area with several cafes and a beautiful ornamented arched Town Hall in dark brown brick.

Lübeck Town Hall is one of the most beautiful abd most interesting town halls I have ever seen. It has the dark bricks which make a striking contrast to the traditional red-brick construction of the surrounding buildings. The patricians extended the building several times, adding the magnificent freestone facade, the decorative balcony and the three towers. People call it locally as the“giants”.

The Rathouse of Lübeck makes a great backdrop for the central market square and some of the main shopping street. It is hard to avoid and really shouldn't bee avoided.
There are guided tours several times a day.

First you made the ticket, then you discover that the guide speak only german, waste of money waste of time. If you don’t speak german better read in Wikipedia the history of the cityhall
