In addition to the exhibits in the hall, there are a few historic ships tied up alongside the pier. It is very near the centre of the city and offers views of the nearby docked ferries, cruise ships and shipyards.

On a rainy or cool day this museum has some interesting exhibits. It provides an understanding of the history of the area and the importance of the sea in the culture of the people.

Our cruise ship called at Kiel on our way home, there wasn't much to do or see but we found this small maritime museum on the water front which also has a couple of small boats to visit.
