Rathaus, the town hall, was built in 1540. It is a Renaissance style building with a beautiful balcony over the entrance. Other than the exterior, the main hall (not very large) and the stairs lobby are also elegant and quiescent. So, I uploaded some photos...More

This grand Renaissance building sits in the middle of the old town area. It has two distinct statues in front, Martin Luther and Phillip Melanchthon, on either side. The building was being worked on and there was lots of noise and scaffolding so we didn't...More

In the middle of the historical area , on the town square stands this impressive building. Inside is a museum and offices. Outside it commands your attention. Several important statues are on the left when facing the front.

When we arrived at the Markplatz we were surrounded by beauty. I couldn’t decide which one was more attractive: The Stadtkirche, the stores, the rathaus, the two monuments about Luther and Melanchthon or the huge round reflective globe. I did what I do best: I...More

This Market Square and Rathaus are similar to many found throughout Germany. In this one there is a large statue of Martin Luther standing in the middle of the square and buildings, including the Rathaus, surrounding the square. At night the square is often host...More

We were there on Saturday and were able to watch the newly married couples leave the Rathaus after their civil ceremony. Kind of fun. It is in the middle of town and so it is close to everything.

The Christmas Market is located in the main square (Marktplatz) in front of the Rathaus. This is a medium-sized market, with some regional products, but mostly food and drink for immediate consumption. Nothing unique, but if you are in town already, it makes an enjoyable...More
