It's a nice replacement statue honoring this excellent composer. The Nazis had destroyed the original statue due to Mendelssohn's Jewish ancestry. Having converted, he was a practicing Christian but even if you had one Jewish grandparent you were considered Jewish and so the Nazis tried to erase him and his music.

Visited on Sunday 1st October and found this Statue hidden away by accident, another part of this towns history worth seeking out.

The Mendelssohn statue is directly to the front of the church and sits on top of a ten foot pillar as is life size itself. Around the pillar are angels and figurines playing musical instruments and makes for a lovely memorial.
