What do you with a mundane block of flats that are unlikely to see much tourist traffic except for the lost? Well it looks like Kunsthofpassage was the brainchild of a group of visionary architects and artists, out to design a fun, colourful, unpretentious, modern courtyard with innovative drain pipes.

There are actually several courtyards all with their own unique design, but two that really stand out are the "Yard of Animals" and "Court of the Elements". The former has an African themed building facade and balconies that look like wicker baskets. The latter is probably the masterpiece of architecture, with a series of seeming drain pipes that channel rainwater through pipes, with the running water playing out a little tune.

A fun and quirky experience.

Don't miss Dresden Neustadt and don't miss the Kunsthofpassage .... a passageway leading into the interior "hof" area and through the block between the Alaun and Görlitzer streets. You leave a typical Neustadt street and enter a magical space filled with fancifully decorated building facades, lovely plantings, interesting little shops, sidewalk cafes and restaurants. I especially love the "funnel wall", an intricate arrangement of gutters and funnel drain pipes that catch the rain and function like a musical instrument.

To see this place, you have to know where it is exactly since it's not on the central streets. This place is amazing especially for those who like to take photos. The colorful buildings and the art pieces on the buildings are worth-visiting. You can imagine yourself as in the Alice's wonderland. :)

Nose around a little bit when you're meandering through Neustadt. This is a site that's worth finding and checking out. While all of Neustadt is quirky and interesting, this is one of the real highlights. Don't miss it.

Escape the kitsch tourism of the Altstadt and come here - a charming location in a great and lively neighborhood. Not to be missed !

This is great way to spend 2-3 hours in Dresden especially if weather is good. I would suggest not to rush, visit many cute stores with the different unique souvenirs, have lunch or brunch in one of the cafe.

Compulsory visit if you are in Dresden, there are not many buildings like this around the world, it is a different tourist attraction in the center of neustadt district. There is a little tea shop located in the passage which is very recommendable if u want to get a good handmade tea!

It is nice to go there and check it out. Especially, when you are not mislead by the word "Kunst" (Art) in the title. Since, what you get is a mix of 80ies and 90ies style shops with crafted goods.
In a soon-to-be-upgraded area of Dresden that reminds me of the "Schanzenviertel" in Hamburg (only less chic and less expensive).

Not only the buildings are an attraction themselves, but also the passage is a nice place to hang out. Besides the beautiful buildings decor, there are nice stores in the passage and cafés. Funnel wall is just amazing! I wish I could be there during a storm.
