The multi-language signs are helpful for international travelers. The "path" is over the ruins. Interpretation signs offer images and a written description of each view. We had limited time in Trier and the location of this Bad near the Amphitheater was great. The designers really...More

This site is a gem. It was the 2nd largest baths of the time. They have uncovered only about a half of it, as the rest is under homes and roads. You walk along a platform and look down onto the site. There are information...More

Really enjoyed walking the grounds and reading the signs that explained the baths. They also include diagrams and artist renditions of what it would have looked like in its heyday. The bridge that runs diagonally through the grounds gets you as close to the ruins...More

In my experience the best Roman thermen exhibit in Trier. Freely accessible, well documented, great views (and good reconstruction of the grandeur of the original place).

Totally obscure places included for not evident reason in the list of "world heritage" by UNESCO. The pitiful remnants of its former greatness. Trenches and foundations, due to identify the tracks of something great that stood here nearly two millennia ago. Obviously this is influenced...More

After a walk along the River Moselle to have a look at the old cranes (at Kranenufer) and the Roman Bridge, we arrived at the Unesco World Heritage ruins of the Barbara Thermae (‘Barbarathermen’ in German), just a short distance behind the bridge. After centuries...More

One of several major Roman antiquities in Trier the site features English translations of exhibit descriptions. This was a very large thermal bath. Enough was excavated to give you a good overview but much remains underground. Unlike the other major Roman ruins in the city...More

When you visit the Roman baths (Barbarathermen), you are struck by many different emotions. The first is the grand scale of the bath complex, showing the massive scale of the undertaking. And then the opulence that must have been so evident during it's heydays. You...More
