We had an excellent overview from a docent before descending into the excavated site beneath a shopping mall. Explanatory guide in English is available. Very well curated exhibition. It led nicely into other Roman sites in town, particularly the exceptional museum on ancient shipbuilding.

This roman temple has been excavated while they build a shopping mall around 2002. One can visit this nicely whith roman artefacts equippet room under the very busy mall for free.

It's well done but there isn't all that much to see. Layout of the temple is nicely viewed from above. The best item is a statuette of a dwarf, I think. The interpretations in the text are well made and interesting. Probably only 10-20 minutes'...More

Located underneath a shopping centre it's quite easy to miss (enter through a small shop at one of the entrances) but well worth a visit. Like most attractions in Mainz, it's free but won't take you long to walk around. Depending on the type of...More

The museum (in a shopping centre) consists of just one very large underground room containing remains of the (originally far more extensive) Isis and Mater Magna temple, surrounded by exhibits excavated from the site. It's a fascinating collection and excellently set out, with explanatory notes...More

This fascinating site is in what looks like a store front in the Römerpassage. There are detailed descriptions of artifacts and the foundation of a double temple from Roman times. We had a great conversation with one of the staff. She was well informed on...More

Great surprise in the middle of a shoppping center! Very interesting and nicely done. Just a small exposition of remains and artifacts, therefore can be fit into a quick tour of Mainz or even done while the rest of the family is shopping.

The place is run by a private initiative, who put a lot of enthusiasm into it. I have been there twice, the second time to show it to friends and both times I was lucky enough to meet one of the leading members of the...More
