They really liked to build their churches on a massive scale in medieval times. Originally started in the late 900's it was dedicated in 1009. After visiting the main cathedral, we went into the cloisters and later into the Diocesan Museum with its collection of...More

This old Catholic church is right down town in the walking area of the city. Take the time to walk through it as it is beautiful.

Visited the church on market day . The interior is a bit dark but imposing . A throwback to less ornate but somber cathedrals. Worth a look

Very impressive cathedral which brings out the feeling of stepping right into medieval, dark history. My grandson - thirteen -said he expected Harry Potter to come around the next corner, so he was also pleased that we went to this cathedral. Otherwise churches are not...More

Lovely place with a picturesque backdrop of the Old cathedral. Many restaurants by the dom. Shopping places all around. The Saturday farmers market and wine market is fun to hang out. Right next to the Gutenberg Museum.

This Cathedral is really incredible. It is a great place to wander through and try to imagine how it was built 1000 years ago. The stone work is fabulous. If you are in Mainz this is a must see experience.

There are lots of interesting photographic opportunities in this beautiful over a thousand year old building. Thousands of people visit it each year attesting to its importance. Although there are crowds of people, it still maintains its worshipful atmosphere.

Made up of Sand stone this cathedral depicts Gothic, Baroque & Romanesque designs. Inside are the funerary monuments of 19th century priests & noble men. Middle age monarchs also were crowned here I believe. We took a special tour of the Church which gave us...More
