In a continent chockers with cathedrals this is one of the special ones. The entrance is not as obvious as most [it's on the east side] and takes you into a garden with glass doors on the right. leading into the cathedral. There's a purity...More

One can never truly experience the amazing architecture and intricate features of a cathedral unless you physically go into one. This is an impressive wonder even if you’re not into history. My son just finished studying medieval history and I wanted him to experience some...More

Mainz is a well-respected piece of architecture dating from around 1000 AD. The date alone is impressive and makes this building worth visiting. There's plenty to explore here, from the numerous side chapels advertising the wealth of the locals of Mainz over the ages to...More

Big cathedral with surprising modern art amongst the ancient pieces. Be sure to see the humorous wall carving of Gutenberg popping out of his casket.

This 1000-year old cathedral is located on the market square. There are some beautiful stained glass windows. You can visit the crypt. There are several lovely side altars worth visiting. Photographs are allowed inside but it is requested that they not be posted on-line.

I've seen a lot of Cathedrals in my travels but this one is unique for many reasons: it has three naves (two large opposing main alters), a few very modern glass windows and some stunning modern art (so unusual in a house of worship).

It was my first time in Mainz and I really liked the city center with the cathedral which is absolutely beautiful. If you're close to Mainz or if you definitely planning on visiting, I assure you it's worth it.

We entered and felt an immediate sense of awe. The scale of the cathedral is impressive, and the sculptures that adorn the walls were break-taking, and arresting. Their are many nooks and crannies to explore here, and I enjoyed just sitting in the main room,...More
