We wandered around..not that much to see in the fall. It's a bit of a walk from the train station. But doable.

Wonder along the river bank, stroll under railway bridges and listen to children playing in the hired rowing boats. I enjoyed a stroll through the town, with some older buildings and friendly churches. No huge attractions but just a nice place to spend time..

We travelled on a riverboat to the village, which thankfully escaped the ravages of ww2, it's a lovely place for a stroll and for taking photos or perhaps stop for a coffee or an ice cream. Some parts are a little steep but all well...More

Kettwig is historic it's a part of Essen which remained relatively undamaged after the war. The cobble lined streets fachwerk, (timber framed) houses compliment each other. Historic churches stand side by side next to restaurants and little stores. You can grab a bite to eat...More

It's a nice part of Essen to spend a day outside town. Old houses, cubble stone streets. One can get there by U11 till Messe/Gruga and catch the bus 142. Good restaurants and nice walk along the river, good for biking or inline skating.

If you enjoy a long, romantic stroll, followed by coffee and cake, this is one place you'll want to visit. Again and again!

We visited because we had some time, but we could have regretted not doing it. We had an amazing stroll around the streets and lovely houses. Great views next to water. Old town is 7min walk from kettwig bahnof.

Essen has a lot of modern touches. The south of it, where Kettwig is allows you to see a more traditional german city, quite confortable and godo for a calm stroll.

Perhaps its the day I happened to be in Kettwig, I canoed along the river with a friend and arrived at the old town, the village has its charms that adds a certain filter to your memories of it.

You can reach Ketwig easily from Essen main station. A boat trip from Kettwig to Mülheim on the Ruhr is quite nice. There are a series of lakes (Sees) around Essen which are attractive.
