We recently visited Cologne on an excursion with Viking Cruises. Our guide, Christian, explained the significance of the shrine and we went back after our tour to see it up close for ourselves. While not everyone believes that it actually holds the bones of the...More

The highlight of the Cathedral. The relic of the three wiseman that were bright to Cologne during the medieval times.

The shrine is inside the Cathedral. It houses the bones of the 3 wise men (supposedly) brought back from the middle east at the time of the crusades. The Cathedral was built specifically to house these relics.

The shrine of the Three Kings is located in the Cologne Cathedral. You are not able to get near to it. Even so, it is still amazing to see.

This is really an amazing piece. Wish I had had time to do a tour where my understanding is you get to see it close up, but you can see it just fine from the back of the cathedral. Dont accidentally miss it, I almost...More

Whether or not you believe in Jesus, or even if you don’t believe these to be the true remains of the magi, they are still worth a visit. The shrine itself is beautiful too, gold with ornate carvings all around. The cathedral is peaceful and...More

We found out about the story of how the three kings made their way to Jesus and that made our experience so much more interesting here.

Entry is free, central location and easy access on foot or via public transport. Opposite is a tourist point with very helpful staff. It was hot so I didn’t take a scarf or cardigan (almost 40c) and was not allowed to get in in tank...More

I appreciated seeing the holding place of the 3 Kings or Magi who visited the baby Jesus. I’m not convinced that the relics are really there. I believe in the story but can’t trust the church’s claims as they have been wrong far too often...More

The Shrine of the Three Kings is the large golden box behind the high altar in the cologne Cathedral. As such, there of course is no admission fee, and the hours are the cathedral hours.
