The Basilica of St. Ursula in Cologne is also one out of 12 romanesque catholic churches and claimed to hold the alleged relics of Ursula and her 11.000 companions who were all virgins. They were killed because of their belief . (please read their story)...More

The church is easy to find, a mere few minutes from the central station, very well-kept and clean, very catholic with its tons of religious art (other German churches, protestant, are very raw, the cult of saints not being recognized in the protestant movement). St...More

From the outside, it looks like just another church in a quiet neighbourhood, but the real attraction here is the Golden Room, which has all the relics from the '11,000 virgins' who were apparently martyred with St Ursula, as well as prayers written out with...More

Quite a plain building except for the bell tower on top. We were intrigued by the connection of St Ursula to the UK and the fact that there are nuns living in the adjoining buildings.
