Not your average museum, with very minimalist interior and part built around excavated old church. The idea seems to be to combine a minimal number of art pieces per room from different styles and see 'what happens'. This is a worthwhile concept, whether anything happens...More

I loved the mix of historical perspective and wild modern art this museum offered. You usually get one or the other, it's rare to get both, mixed into nearly every room. You never knew what you were going to find when you turned a corner....More

We had read that this museum was worth a visit, but we went because it was open on a Monday, most other attractions in Cologne are closed on Mondays. It was fantastic, a blend of archeological remnants still in situ juxtaposed with modern artefacts. Fascinating...More

The Roman mosaic with scenes from the world of Dionysos (c.AD 220/230), the so-called Philosophers‘ Mosaic with portraits of the main philosophers and the reconstructed funerary monument to the legionary Poblicius (c.AD 40) are probably the best-known exhibits in Cologne's Romano-Germanic Museum. They are worth...More

Wow this museum is spectacular, so architecturally refined and psychologically curated to display at relics and art appropriately. aesthetically symbolic Peter Zumthors building and his use of mute but strong material compliment the work it houses. The rooms of the museum on the top floors...More

I wasn’t expecting something marvelous like this when i was getting there, honestly, i was just going to see some religious antiquities from the old church. We started with the renovated church, which is beyond beautiful -like a picture from mad man found jesus- all...More

The chapel one can visit for free, and is rather small, but nice to see. You need to enter the museum to see the ruins of the rest of the original church. The museum also displays old and new artefacts and art alongside each other....More

As a museum, this is OK. As an architectural marvel, it is pretty cool to see ancient building materials and foundations incorporated into a modern building.
