From outside, it is indeed the church seems to be grand and stunning. But from inside, to be honest in my opinion it really looks normal to me (compared to other grand churches/cathedral that I have seen in Europe).

Slightly hidden and doesn't look like much from the outside, but the interior was by far our favourite from the trip. It's elegant and so so beautiful on the inside, not at all busy and we were able to enjoy a really peaceful visit.

Saint Gereon's Basilica is thus far, my favorite church in Germany. It is stunning without being ostentatious. Uncrowded and unpretentious with artistic charm that invites you to stay awhile and soak in the serenity.

St Gereon is one of the patron saints of the city of Cologne, supposedly martyred here. The original Romanesque church was expanded upwards as well as lengthwise in the gothic era, but still presents a harmonious unity. The altar is at the far edge of...More

It’s lovely and spiritual to religious and non religious folks. Cologne is nice but small, you should visit this if you have lots of time.

Most churches have rectangular plans, but the most important part of this one is a decagon. It's quite elaborate, and it contains stained glass windows created after the Second World War. My favorite windows are the ones in black-and-white patterns, but others high up are...More
