- Bob KFairfax, Virginia2,233 contributionsUp close and personal with the Cathedral treasuresThe Treasury of the Aachen Cathedral houses a collection liturgical treasures. We highly recommend visiting the treasury to see many works of art on display with dramatic lighting. Allow ~1+ hr for your visit.Visited December 2019Written 9 February 2020
- hbkmLeverkusen, Germany329 contributionsNot a giant collection, but uniqueThe treasury of Aachen cathedral is not a giant collection, but unique pieces that give you a good idea of medieval Germany and Charles the Great. The exhibits nicely exposed and explained and ordered by themes (e.g. coronation, relics, etc.). Definitely worth a visit on rainy days, but even on a sunny day one can spare an hour for it.Visited May 2020Travelled with familyWritten 18 May 2020
- Sunglasses_sunscreenKortenberg, Belgium20 contributionsImpressiveI had visited this treasury before, more than twenty years ago. The exhibited treasures were still as impressive as I remembered them to be. One can only marvel at the amounts of gold and gems used to make the intricately designed relic shrines that can be viewed here. The exhibited treasures bear witness to fantastic craftsmanship. They are shown in a very respectful way - they shine - and you can view them from up close. This treasury is a gem in itself.Visited August 2020Travelled with familyWritten 2 August 2020

I was surprised at how interesting this rather small museum is, 6 euro entry worth every penny. Lots of gold and silver artifacts with many old jewels. Darkish in places so a little difficult to get good pics

One of the top collections of European medieval art is exhibited here. Significant also because it sheds light on the roots of modern Europe as we know it now. The holy Roman emperors were crowned at Aachen cathedral for centuries. The objects that gave meaning to their role such as sceptors, crowns, goblets etc. are impressive to observe also because of the craftmanship with which they were made.

The Treasure of the Cathedral of Aachen contains one of the richest collections of precious religious and historical objects, made in an artistic manner. The exhibits are presented to the public in three sections. One treats the Cathedral as the church of Charlemagne, the second section includes liturgical objects that were used at the coronation of 30 emperors of the Western Roman Empire between 936 and 1531, and the third includes objects worked in the Ottonian artistic style. Visiting the place, you will have the opportunity to admire not only objects particularly valuable from a historical and religious point of view, but also objects that prove that the craftsmen who worked them were particularly talented and skilled.

The treasury is located a short walk from the Aachen Cathedral. Tickets are available at EUR 5 in the Cathedral Information, Dominformation, located on Johannes-Paul-II-Strasse.
The collection is both unique and large with several interesting exhibits, reflecting the historic importance of the cathedral.

When you have six centuries of Holy Roman Empire kings being crowned here, you know this is going to be memorable; other reviewers can attest that this is very much the case. What is essential is to get an audio guide to help you through; we found it to be an indispensable aid to our tour. This was far more interesting than the treasury in Cologne for both the history and value of the artifacts displayed, and as I noted in a separate review of the Aachen Cathedral, I would strongly urge setting aside a day in Aachen if you are based in Cologne.

Started badly by being told all handbags have to be left in lockers next to BiG sign saying no responsibility for goods left in these lockers. Apart from that some interesting items and for £16 a good half hours viewing nearly all with English sun text.

The treasury contains a good number of early medieval artefacts as well as more modern pieces.
The descriptions of the artefacts could be better placed into their context.
Worth the 6 euro fee

Magnificent in their workmanship and attention to detail, makes you wonder how it survived over the years. The history behind it too is quite something
