Nothing much to see inside. Quite empty and few decorations. Some arts displays directly after the entrance and it is possible against a fee to climb the tower. Worth a quick visit.

Once again struck by the curse of scaffolding and plastic sheeting. This is quite an impressive building from the outside. When you walk in the door into the entrance hall - you will be amazed by the height of the ceiling - it is quite staggering indeed. Inside the church itself it is quite typical with the carved wooden alter... More

You can not miss this church when you are in Greifswald. In particular it is very wide. Another feature is the red brick, which seems to be special for this region: the brick gothic.

Fantastic and tall, this church dedicated to St. Mary had some reconstruction going on inside but not so much that you'd really be bothered by it. One of the most impressive examples of German gothic churches and amazing that it has survived so many wars. A must see.

You don't have to be religious to appreciate the architecture and ornamentation of churches. Nearly 50 years of communist rule and yet such beauty survived. Climb the tower, it brings memories of the final scenes in 'The name of the rose.' Despite the seemingly endless stairways the view is fabulous and on a hot day there is the promise of... More

This is one if the tallest vaulted ceilings we've seen. The alters are stunning and it certainly reflects the grandeur that 14th C Stralsund must had at that time.

The Marienkirche is the first large church you reach after coming directly from the train station via the roadway past the lake. This is a huge brick building of cathedral proportions. It's very light inside due to the high nave with windows likewise. Don't miss the vaulting inside the main door and the ornate organ case, defintely star features.

When you have been to the St.Nicolai Kirche this church appears a little plain. But on a sunny day you must climb the 366 steps to the top of the tower and enjoy the incredible view over Stralsund and surrounding area. But beware, the climb requires a certain fitness. The majority of steps are winding round a stone spiral staircase and then you get... It is a church from the14th century. It is fairly big but has interesting style. The wood work in the church is impressive. One of the interesting church in Greifswald. Once you step in you got the sense that you are near the sea.

It's a bit of a hike but well worth it. One thing I have never seen before is that they separated the staoircase going up from the one going down, so you don't have to worry about people coming down as you go up or vice-versa.
