I seldom skip small, regional art museums. You usually find something interesting in them. That was true here. The paintings by Jean-Baptist Oudry were among them, especially the "exotic" painting of the world-traveling rhino! Audioguide was helpful. Spent between one and two hours here.

This museum boasts old and new art masters, but the new artist collection is small. That being said, there is a good representation of the sculptor Ernst Barlach and there is a full room of Marcel Duchamp’s work. The selection of Old Masters is considerably...More

The Schwerin collection is one of the more distinguished collections of the Dutch Masters. Their Carel Fabritius, The Sleeping Sentinel, is one of his most famous and oft studied paintings. We were disappointed to visit this Museum after our tour of the Castle. Dark and not very interesting. The museum should be in the Netherlands. a lot of Dutch art.

After visiting the schloss, the museum was a great disappointment -- just dark Dutch landscapes and portraits, nothing of interest! We never found the Cranach, Rembrandt, and Rubens our Michelin green guide listed -- and it rated it *, the same as the St. Annen...More

We checked out the whole museum including the museum store / cafe. Overall the Museum is offering a descent, but not spectacular collection of artwork of classic (starting about 17th. century) and contemporary periods. Very impressive was the presentation of a recent body of work...More

The museum mostly displays Dutch Golden age art. In fact it has a surfeit of Dutch art on the walls. Not all of the works are of the highest calibre. For every Ruisadel, Claez, Hals, etc. there are a number of works by other artists...More
