The paintings on display are not very exciting Dutch old masters. However this museum is a must see because of the wonderful collection of Barlach sculptures. In one room are more of his work than you could ever hope to see. The attendant who was...More

We were disappointed to visit this Museum after our tour of the Castle. Dark and not very interesting. The museum should be in the Netherlands. a lot of Dutch art.

We bought a combination ticket (15 Euros) that allowed entry to both the Schwerin Castle and this museum which is just across the bridge. The Gallery of Old and New Masters was fine, but we thought the current special exhibit was the best part of...More

From the outside, this museum is fabulous but inside I found their art collection very similar and often, very dark. There were a few gems, like the twin Fran's Hals, the very large rhino painting, the weird piece that Rubens painted part of it and...More

After visiting the schloss, the museum was a great disappointment -- just dark Dutch landscapes and portraits, nothing of interest! We never found the Cranach, Rembrandt, and Rubens our Michelin green guide listed -- and it rated it *, the same as the St. Annen...More

We checked out the whole museum including the museum store / cafe. Overall the Museum is offering a descent, but not spectacular collection of artwork of classic (starting about 17th. century) and contemporary periods. Very impressive was the presentation of a recent body of work...More

The museum mostly displays Dutch Golden age art. In fact it has a surfeit of Dutch art on the walls. Not all of the works are of the highest calibre. For every Ruisadel, Claez, Hals, etc. there are a number of works by other artists...More

There are some nice paintings of all kinds of artists of the 17th and 18 th century. We loved the painting of KarelmFabricius, a Dutch painter who worked with Rembrandt. There is little work of him to be found all over the world. Also we...More

Very good exhibition of Dutch masters and a small exhibition of Barlach sculptures but 2/3 is currently closed while they move to a new building. Not clear when it will be fully open again.

I went to the museum to specifically see the David Teniers, Breughel and Rubens and Franz von Stuck paintings. Absolutely a must see and would have been better if seen before the castle. Both in a day was exhausting and wonderful.
