What we saw was good.

The museum mostly displays Dutch Golden age art. In fact it has a surfeit of Dutch art on the walls. Not all of the works are of the highest calibre. For every Ruisadel, Claez, Hals, etc. there are a number of works by other artists who look slight by comparison. A donation by Christoph Muller has increased the Dutch works... More

There are some nice paintings of all kinds of artists of the 17th and 18 th century. We loved the painting of KarelmFabricius, a Dutch painter who worked with Rembrandt. There is little work of him to be found all over the world. Also we loved the modern section of the museum. You can spent 2-3 houres max in the... More

I went to the museum to specifically see the David Teniers, Breughel and Rubens and Franz von Stuck paintings. Absolutely a must see and would have been better if seen before the castle. Both in a day was exhausting and wonderful.

The museum is a part of few monuments you can visit with a combine ticket. Good quality of art and a modern wing. Put attention to the opening hours ( summer & winter )

The old city has been preserved and renovated over the last twenty years or so and the museum is both fascinating and full of amazing information about the land of my forefathers.

visited the Stolen Art exhibition. Well presented and excellent headphone-translation. The building in itself is interesting architecture.

I didn't expect to find such a good collection outside a city, but the collection includes items owned by the wealthy former rulers of the area, who lived in Schwerin Castle and had some very beautiful paintings, furniture and objects. The special exhibition which was on when I was there (at extra cost) was not enormous but I was impressed... More

About 30 miles east of Ratzeburg, if you are in the area try to visit the castle. It is located in what used to be East Germany. The castle was badly damaged during the war but is undergoing repairs. Do not let this put you off, it is a massive castle and the restorations have been carried out to great... More

The museum is OK but the art gallery is absolutely outstanding. Quite simply one of the best provincial galleries I have ever visited. Whether your tastes are modern of classical, you'll find something to enjoy here.
