Took 2.5 hours on a crowded train (puts English trains to shame) onl with no air conditioning only to be totally disappointed with this place. Market square ok nothing much tpo look at and that was it. Did the whole area in 1 hour. had an basic McDonalds had to ask for food verbally and the staff spoke little English.

Very disappointed withj the whole trip. Trains not reloiable - train back to Berlin delayed 40 mins and a free for all when it did arrive. Spent a total of 1 hr thre before heading back. Quicker to go down to Hamberg and then back to Berlin then to go from Rostock to Berlin.

So, when we visited it was cold, and not to forget most things closed down due to cover. I assume the square is much more vibrant in normal times. I can imagine having a coffee at an outside terrace in the summer time is quite a nice thing.
A big empty square without people is nothing interesting in itself, but the surrounding houses are very beautiful.

Unfortunately the market was not open so we simply had to admire the wide selection of architecture on offer.

Neuer Markt is a central square in the city with restaurants, cafes and tram lines. There are several well preserved buildings around the square, making this a nice place.

The main square in Rostock is surrounded by attractive and colourful buildings, which date back to 1230. A very busy area and a nice place to stroll around and take in the scenery and atomosphere.

Our cruise ship was berthed in the port of Rostock for the day. During the morning we had been on a guided tour to Wismar. On our return to the port early in the afternoon, we made use of a port shuttle bus and were transported to Rostock’s city centre.
After spending some time shopping in Kropeliner Strasse which is a long pedestrian mall, we made our way to the end of the long street where Neuer Markt, the town square is situated. It was a Saturday and when we arrived there, the market stalls were in the process of being packed up.
Consequently, instead of shopping, we made do with admiring the quaint architecture of the various buildings surrounding the square. We were particularly taken with the attractive and appealing pink town hall.
The square is also home to a nice fountain and some fascinating small sculptures. Outdoor cafes also add to the ambiance of the town square.
We thoroughly enjoyed our brief visit to Neuer Markt. It is certainly a “must visit” location for any tourist spending time in Rostock!

While compared to citi halls in other major Hanseatic towns like Rubeck, Wismar, Bremen, Hamburg, and Stralsund, the city hall at Rostock is much less impressive with fewer carving and lacks delicate architectural front decorations. However it is still nice to walk around with lively square and cosy walking street.

We took train from Warnemunde to Rohstock. It was a nice and interesting city. There were lots of stores to see.

Took the tram here from the main station as it was central to walking around the centre. It was pleasant but not exciting. There were quite a few stalls there selling a variety of food and the usual market goods - bags, scarves, clothes etc. There are supposedly 10 really interesting things to see but we gave in early!
