We had time to stop by on our way out of town and so glad we did. The place was filled with treasures of maps, propaganda posters, signs, etc. Has the feel of your grandfather's attic barn. Not visibly organized but facinating.

I was part of a Leger Battlefield tour group, focusing on the U Boat role in the 2nd World War. As part of the tour we visited this bunker / air-raid shelter. It was an amazing visit , very atmospheric climbing the stairs to the various levels of the bunker. There is the most amazing collection of 2nd World War ephemera I have ever seen , posters , pictures , maps , photos and militaria. One photo sticks in my mind , it was taken following an Allied bombing raid , the only thing left standing was the bunker, the area around it had been completely flattened . The curator was a nice guy , very enthusiastic and keen about his bunker. If you have mobility issues the stairs could be a problem. If you get the chance visit this bunker it's amazing.

This is not a site to commemorate war, but to raise awareness of the terrors that civil population suffer. 99% of this live museum is intact from those days where 1200 civilians looked for shelter during the 6 days of nightly bombings by the US and GB armed forces. More important as 80% of Wilhelmshaven town was destroyed during the war. Civilians were, without doubt a target and here you can see. Feel and sense what several thousands had to go through to survive.
I much recommend this place as no war artefacts are exposed. Only survival. Very touching and the people running the place get engaged not to forget was is not written in the history books.
Enjoy

Tip Top guided tour by an expert through an air raid shelter on 4 levels with unique exhibits that have been collected over the past decades.
