We visited the museum because of the retro video game exhibition being held in Winter 2016/17. This temporary exhibition was very well designed and featured a great range of video games from the 1970s onwards. It did make me feel quite old though as I wouldn't have counted some of them as retro! Stayed for the permanent exhibits too, including... More

I have visited this museum on the 1st of January, as we were in Hamburg and looking for something to visit. The museum is located near Hauptbahnhof, area I did not like so much, because all the junkies who were there. If you go by car, it is quite difficult to find parking, even though there are a few parking... More

I enjoyed seeing this museum though they don't let you take pictures so I can't remember that much about it. From what I recall they had some GREAT Art Nouveau works. It's definitely worth a visit though it wasn't my favorite museum in Hamburg (The Hamburger Kunsthalle was superior) Still it's definitely worth a visit.

We did not see the exhibitions because we have seen them before. We went to see the Christmas market. On this market you find very good artist selling their works. The prices are high but it is interesting to see what they have made. In this museum there is also a cosy cafe.

I was going to post a review to say that this museum wasn't worth the 20+ euros we paid to go to it... especially compared to the other museum we visited but it made up for it by the Games exhibition that was on. Loved playing the old games, and the rest of the museum was ok but was a... More

A wide ranging collection is contained within this museum. It contains works from East Asia, Art Nouveau, Musical Instruments, Baroque & Renaissance objects and Classical works. It also has some Egyptian works. There is also a lot of space given to exhibitions, for example from their photography collection. On the ground floor a number of period rooms are set up... More

The museum is OK, it you like looking at other peoples ' tat! I thought the exhibitions were in-cohesive, and seemed to be thrown together. The exhibition on design was well thought out, but the rest seemed incidental, to fill some large spaces. It was almost as if they [the museum] have been donated pieces from the attics of dead... If you are interested in beautiful objects and design in general, the museum is a must. Located a few steps from the Hauptbahnhof, it is easy to reach from anywhere in Hamburg. My particular interest is Art Nouveau and the museum has several rooms dedicated to this style. So much to see and in general, well documented. there was a... More

The museum is rather big with interesting objects: some beautiful and potentially useful, others less so. Worth a visit, if you are interested in design.

This museum always delivers great exhibitions meeting the current Zeitgeist. It is propably the best museum in Hamburg regarding contemporary cultural topics. I'm always delighted how much the topics shown there are a great inspiration for work & life at the same time.
