Moin Folks,

There is not only the Reeperbahn, not only the bunker, which is now interesting, there is not only our Holy Square, Planten and Blomen and its water features, Bismarck monument, Old Elbe Tunnel, Davidswache, the harbour road with its history is also good to look at.
The fish market can be interesting on Sunday at 7 am, oh the many side streets offer so much, walking at dusk has something and offers a lot, a lot of fun and a lot of nice moments, happiness on👍

A nightlife district, although some things are open during the day. Definitely a place for beer drinking and some carousing. Some music as well. It is somewhat cleaned up from the old honky tonk harbor city days.

Maybe the most misguided tour is the one down reeperbahn at night on a weekend. What you will mostly see is other tourists like yourself and none of any action you may want to see. The red light district has moved elsewhere and left are some kinky shops, turkish food and a lot of beer gardens. But once you leave the beaten track and go via hein kollisch platz with its many bars and restaurants and walk trough to river elbe you will see a completely different side of this district. There is a wide view from the new elbphilharmony to the fischauktionshalle and sitting down and watching huge ships cruise ones aswell as cargo coming past is a must. Greenery and benches in a well kept scenario invite to sit down and relax and just watch life on the river and around. The ultimate high to finish this experience of is to take the hvv ship from either landundsbruecken or fischauktionshalle to finkenwerder. They go every 15 minutes and the round tour takes about an hour and gives just the best of views. On my recent visit i did the ship trip five times and each time, the elbe looked different. An amazing experience and you only need your public transport day ticket for this. No extra cost as its a ferry included in the public network. During days there is gastronomy on board for coffee, small snacks and ice. Plan at least half a day for st pauli besides the (borish) reeperbahn.

There are good and bad places in St Pauli. I visited with some friends from the UK and Germans. Beware Herbertstrasse (also known as Herbertstraße) where many of the beautiful young women are a honeytrap - they will agree a price but once you have paid the money they will increase the price and usually you get nothing - it is a fraud, basically, and the street should be closed down until the women act with honesty and integrity. My friend was defrauded of 50 euros. I strongly advise you to just have a look rather than do anything on this street and wonder why the Hamburg authorities or police haven't done anything about it.
Hold onto your possessions closely on the Reeperbahn as there are pickpockets. Don't go into the smaller strip bars such as "Magic Moments" on Reeperbahn as they will try and get you to buy drinks for the women and then charge you 60 euros per drink - you'll get a shock when the bill arrives!
There are some good places in St Pauli too but avoid the above.

We went out with friends at St. Pauli (or Reeperbahn). The place is full of bars, strip clubs and Turkish eateries. Believe me most of the bars are out there to loot tourists. We knew it and were careful. We went to a bar and while my friends sat down, I went to loo. And when I came back I saw 6 bottles of champagne and girls at our table. When I asked who ordered this, the bar tender lady pointed at me. Fc! I didnt order. Anyways, the bottles were opened. I asked for bill. And it was whopping 2000 Euros. We decided we wont pay. Lets call police. Things started heating up. Finally we shelled out close to 100 Euro and left the place.
Be very careful when you go out in this area. Do not take your card. Take limited cash so you cant spend more. And dont hesitate to clarify even silly things in a bar while you place an order.

Although famous for the Reeperbahn, the St. Pauli district also covers other attractions like the St. Pauli's landing which is the old Hamburg port. The area is pretty busy during the day with harbor cruise boats departing regularly. In the evening, the area is home to some amateur performances. It is also home to many restaurants and bars including the hard rock café.

The area is part of Hamburg's history and definitely worth a visit. Whether you visit the Reeperbahn or not is upto you.

St.Pauli is home to the Reeperbahn, the famous red light district with it's sex shops and bars, but it's also a nice neighborhood with a lot of reasonably priced restaurants, bars and cafés with main courses for less than 10 €. A fact I was grateful for as I was traveling on a tight student budget. Not to forget the cheap beer! ;) The beer was actually cheaper than ordering water! :) I also liked the fact that it was convienient to take the subway (u-bahn) into town. St.Pauli has had a bad reputation before but I had no problem during the day,but I wouldn't recommend a female walking around on her own at night in the parts of St.Pauli closest to Reeperbahn.

So if you're traveling on a budget or if you want to experience the Reeperbahn, then choose a hotel from St. Pauli. The prices are cheaper there but it's still close to the city centre.

on a recent trip to hamburg we had done all the usual places on the reeperbahn;clubs and loud bars all charging around 5 euros a beer. However,if you turn right at burgerking and head to the river you will come across the David Quelle.its a tiny bar with a curtain across the door and looks a little forboding, especially given the prostitutes hanging around the road outside!once inside however you will find locals all talking about football(do not mention hamburg,st pauli is their local team!)and laughing at all the bewildered tourists wandering past the window nervously peeking in.beer is 3 euros and if you try a little german and ask about st.pauli's league form you will be made to feel one of them.we drank here most nights and also at the ship pub down the street facing the river.a proper hamburg experience rather than the touristy froth of the reeperbahn, drinking where the locals slurp!!

St.Pauli is literally right beside the Reeperbahn District.

St.Pauli is all so full shady characters and homeless people this is not a nice part of Hamburg and I wouldn't recommend any tourist come here to this part of town.
