This small but historically very important bridge is decorated with models of Bishop Ansgar, who founded the cathedral that was in the old part of the city, and of Count Adolf III Von Schauenburg, who founded the merchant's district, Neustädter. Now under construction.

The Trostbrücke is a bridge that spans the Nikolaifleet canal. It's one of the oldest, if not the oldest bridge in Hamburg, accounting for ones in the same location that were destroyed and rebuilt.
It's a fairly simple single arched bridge and pretty nondescript except for the sculptures of Count Adolf III and Saint Ansgar. The buildings around the bridge have a lot of historical significance as part of the Hamburg mercantile heritage. The bridge is pretty, the views aren’t that great, so I wouldn't go out of the way to see it.

Going from the Rathaus to St. Nikolai you should be sure that you cross this small bridge. It is one of the most romantic bridges I have ever crossed – very simple with two beautiful statutes, one at each side. Enjoy!

This is one of the oldest bridges that survived the Bombing of the city and it worth a photo stop on the way between the town hall and the St Nikolai Memorial

Sure it I just a bridge, but it's setting is quiet and historic. The opposing statutes are more photogenic than the bridge. And as my title states, the bridge has not been junked up with those annoying padlocks that seem to be prevelant on any tourist bridge throughout the world.

Interesting bridge, and although not one of the top attractions in Hamburg, it makes an interesting visit. Extremely near to the Nikolaikirche, which you can see standing on the bridge right in front of you, it's quite a modern bridge, not old, and quite wide, but provides a beautiful view of the river, right underneath. Looking towards the church of St. Nikolai, to the left there is some kind of bank building, and to right another big similar red-bricked building. There are two statues on either side of the bridge, vaguely Roman looking, stone, with golden finishes. I especially liked them. They face each other, as if they are standing guard of the bridge. There is a blue sign on the bridge, explaining facts about it, and a few benches to sit down on looking over the river, to the side. All in all, being so close to the Nikolaikirche, it makes an interesting short visit, easy to get to, and one might as well go see it if they're in the area!
