Stunning grounds. Amazing palace. Fascinating story.
The location and grounds are amazing. The palace itself is a wonder and is located in the western part of the Sanssouci Park. Built a little on the whim of kings and rulers, mostly Friedrich but redone several times over - the history including the end of the WWII makes for a great story. I do not know if they offer ENGLISH tours, they did have a device to use so that you could "listen along to the German version in English". Comparing the two, I would say, the English falls far short. I'm bilingual and listened to the guide talk through some of these rooms was exceptional. The English language fell very short. I translated for my family. If there's an English tour I'd recommend it instead of the headphones The grounds are great. There's a tiny restaurant on the property that can provide a quick basic service. Definitely worth the trip to Potsdam. NOTE there is almost no Uber service home, so you need to plan to either prebook, grab a taxi when they drop someone off, or plan to take public transport home if you are staying in Berlin.

    Neues Palais Tour
Me and my family had a wonderful time while visiting the Neues Palais. Our tour guide (Sebastian L.) explained all the information beautifuly. The tour was not rushed, the chambers were spectacular and the location unearthly (including the marvelous gardens). Overall, a lovely experience that we surely recommend!

    Definitely worth a visit!
Although I only visited it from the outside, reading its very interesting history, the moments in which I contemplated this wonderful palace seemed extraordinary to me. Admiring the castle even from the outside gives you a sense of grandeur. I'm sure that exploring what the castle has to offer inside is all the more exciting. For these reasons, I recommend visiting this tourist attraction.

Total tourist trap. I got a combi ticket with Sanssouci but I was denied access by incredible rude staff. They make it imposssible to visit and required an extra payment/reservation, which tickets were all sold out. When I told them I already payed they just shouted abuse and at the ticket office did not provide a guided reservation slot because they did not accept my combi ticket which I already paid at the website of the Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten Berlin-Brandenburg. So they did allowed me to see Sanssouci but not Neues Palais. Impossible to know this in advance as it is not mentioned on their website (and incomprehensible for the non German speaking tourist).

The Ballet performance “Swan Lake” was attended in a version for children (duration 1 hour) by the group Ballet Blanc (www.balletblanc,org). The performance venue was the Theater im Neues Palais in Potsdam. The theatre is one of the few fully preserved Baroque theatres in Germany. It is decorated in the style of Friderian roccoco (lots of gold, stucco, red velvet) and is beautiful. However, you have to climb 2 high floors by stairs to get there. There is no lift. There's no gastronomy either. The ballet performance was more reminiscent of a student theatre. The dancers were bouncing their ballet shoes across the wooden stage floor like a herd of brewery horses. The music came from the canned just two (!) small (!) Speakers that could not meet the minimum requirements for concert music. The plot was performed by a very unsympathetic voice completely unemotionally from the off. The 36 EUR per seat (4th row parquet) is a bargain for this theatre (we now know why), but clearly too expensive for this performance! In no way comparable to “Swan Lake” performances that you are used to from Berlin stages! A disappointment.

UNESCO World Heritage Site. The New Palace (Neues Palais) is located on the River Havel, southwest of Berlin’s city center. Built as a summer residence for the royal family for the reception of important royals and dignitaries.

The main palace building is crowned by a dome with the Three Graces holding the crown of Prussia. The adjoining wings have matching gilded eagle crowned cupolas. Over 400 sandstone statues and figures adorn the palace and auxiliary buildings.

This is a “do not miss attraction “. A person cannot see it all in one visit to appreciate the splendor and its history . Easy walking.

We got tickets to visit all palaces. After three hours in the park, we finally got to the New Palace. It was a very hot sunny day. No lines, great! “Where is your time stamp?” What? No lines, just six people trying to get in (three desperate couples). The staff member told us to walk to the ticket office, stamp our tickets and come back. Our appeals to his common sense, empathy or compassion led nowhere. We were exhausted and did not want to walk another 500 meters in a blustering heat to the ticket office and simply left. Nobody told us about that requirement when we paid for admission at the ticket office on the other entrance. That doorman wanted to exercise his power upon two Americans, two Chinese and French. It is a shame that a world class museum employs such a (oh, well) person 😡

I have probably never seen such a richly decorated palace before. Moreover, there are different halls - in different styles and with different highlights. One way or another, the flooring material, wall decoration, paintings, and interior items are chic and varied. The purpose of the halls also required imagination - a hall for playing chess, for dinners, for dancing (of two types), for elegant and confidential receptions, for listening to music, and so on.

We went with a guide as part of a group, the audio guide is a little poor in Russian, but you can ask or listen to a person speak good English.

The architecture of the various buildings is very impressive and large in scale. We toured the castle and noticed it needed lots of restoration. The Soviets let it be run down. However it is still a must visit to understand the history of Germany and to admire the ambition of the project

The New Palace is really very impressive, the tour by a museum employee is highly recommended, informative and entertaining. The visit was well worth it.
One negative thing I found was the unfriendly treatment at the ticket counter and when entering the New Palace. If you are immediately yelled at for a simple question or are given the feeling that you are disturbing someone by asking a friendly question about something, I find that extremely inappropriate and unprofessional.

Beautiful construction and decoration. Today it belongs to the university, which has its campus in the annex buildings, but 100 years ago it was the summer residence of the Kings of Prussia. The visit is guided, I don't know why, as there are audio guides too.

I had never been to Potsdam before and this palace was a great surprise for me. I had the chance to see a residence of the Royal Family of Germany (Prussia) and trying to imagine how their life used to be back then.

If you happen to be in Potsdam, get off at Potsdam Sanssouci Park railway station and take a short walk away for the palace. You won't regret it.
