One mural and one photo show the realities of Socialism and Communism- it is such an impressive contrast that it is hard to put in words.

The memorial on the ground is a picture taken just before the massacre on this spot. In stark contrast is the mural on the wall behind it put up just 1 year prior showing everyone loving working in the communist society.

The pictures along the corridor contrast starkly with the pictures of the victims who fell under the Soviet bullets. Impressive and emotional memorial.

Along one side of the National Finance Ministry building, once headquarters of the Nazi air command, runs a colorful mural depicting East Germans living joyfully under Communism. created in 1953, the scene moves from enthusiastic workers marching on the left to Young Pioneers and an accordion-heavy band to a bureaucrat shaking hands with a labor leader (who, before recent restoration looked a lot like American actor Larry David) as a politician looked on. Two young men on a tractor chat up a pretty blonde harvesting wheat, muscly men lay railroad track, steelworkers stoke a fire, and scientists ponder lab results. At the far right, a handsome father carries a baby as he walks beside his lovely wife. Over their shoulders is a sports stadium topped by flags of many nations.
On the other side of the colonnaded porch that shields the mural from the elements is a long, blown-up photo of demonstrators in the Workers' Uprising of June 1953 -- the very year the mural was painted. Explanatory texts nearby explain the cause of this apparently spontaneous demonstration. In the wake of Stalin's death, the Communist Central Committee in Moscow ordered the SED to roll back some of the harsher reparations under which East Germans had been suffering. However, it ordered the 10 percent hike in production quotas to remain and added linking wages to production.
This free open-air exhibit is at the intersection of Leipzigstrasse and Wilhemstrasse, not far from the Typography of Terrors.

In Potsdamer Platz, not far from the Mall of Berlin is this memorial.

The mural and the photograph covered in glass remembers the workers uprising that was suppressed by the East German and Soviet forces.

The death toll was over 500 people.

This is a historic place with a violent ending to an uprising. Not many from overseas know this part of history in detail. if going to Mall of Berlin, its a short walk and worth seeing the location and the walls of art around.

You will see on this square a wall-mosaic about the uprising in 1953. Of course this is a work done in GDR, but it still remember everybody to those, who were fighting against the regime.

The uprising of 1953 in East Germany started with a strike by East Berlin construction workers on June 16th 1953. It escalated into a widespread uprising against the German Democrstic Republic government. The uprising was violently suppressed by tanks of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany and the Volkspolizei. In spite of the intervention of soviet troops the wave of strikes and protests were not easily brought under control. The walled mural display commemorates and marks the spot of the uprising. A nice attraction if you're passing but not worth going out the way for.

On this place you find 2 peaces of art. In the building there is a socialistic mosaik. This painting tells about the nice life in a communistic country. On the square you will see an impression of the riot in 1953 against the communist ruling. Nice!
