Berlin Wall Watchtower at Potsdamer Platz The "BT 6" tower, introduced in 1966, permitted panoramic surveillance. There were more than 200 towers of this type deployed along the border line surrounding West Berlin. The gunports were covered by heavy metal shutters that were pulled up for shooting. The solid construction was meant to protect the soldiers from fire originating from the potential enemy in the West. The cabin on top of the tower was manned around the clock: One surveyed the approaches from the GDR ("friendly") side, the other kept his attention on the "enemy"- side. This is the only preserved example of this type of watchtower. And the oldest relict of the Berlin wall. We have started a private initiative and have taken over this authentic relic from the City of Berlin. The purchase of your ticket or a donation will help us to restore this document of a bygone era further and assure its upkeep in the future.

One of the last remaining watch towers that was largely forgotten until a young man decided to ask permission to restore and open it to the public. It's difficult to find as it blends in to its surroundings. The staff are very friendly and explained...More

The watch tower in itself isn't a thing of beauty. But it's historical significance is very high - as it the last one standing. It stood on no man's land between the wall and its western boundary - which was very wide here due to...More

This eyesore is a necessary evil ...it reminds people of the former border that ran through potsdamer platz and now has been largely covered up by the house jungle at Potsdamer Platz. This tour reminds people of the faith of countless people that got assassinated...More

We were lucky to have Laura as our guide at the watchtower, she was so informative and pleasant, on a VERY hot day.

If you're interested in the history of the wall, this is worth a stop. We did not go up into it, but it's possible. Even from ground level, you can imagine what it must have been like to live with these constant reminders that you...More

I walked by the tower three times before I noticed it was there. It's not hidden, it just blends into the trees on the street. A little bit of visible history.

Don't take a big detour to see this - but it's a little bit of cold war history that one man has taken it upon himself to look after. It is one of about 3 remaining watch towers that were built by the GDR to...More

This was a little bit of a challenge to track down, we found the street and the signage giving directions but still walked past it on the other side of the road! There were a couple of guys there, unsure if they were official staff....More

Found this by accident, a little gem. Very helpful guide, also got a map showing where the wall ran which helped us get our bearings

I walked by this place since I was at the underground station nearby. This used to be a watch tower used by east Berlin guards when the wall was up. You can climb a rung ladder to the top but I don't think it's worth...More

The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights
like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum
Island. The central location makes this one of the
city's most expensive places to live. It is here the
oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence
of some significant transformations, as well. The
gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets
between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given
