This is the sight of the famous book burning and this clever unusual memorial really brings it home to you of what happened here. You really need a guide to explain things to you but it's so worth it. Totally recommended.

It took us a while to find this place, as they were doing a lot of building work, and the walls of the Opera were covered with hoardings. And it's not exactly a huge thing - a small glass window set in the pavement -...More

This is a neat little memorial at the sight of the 1933 book burning. It's a bit hard to notice because of construction on the opera house nearby, but pretty cool. Look for plaques on the ground and a large glass square in the plaza....More

An interesting tribute to the written word and the power of the page. This is smack dab in the middle of Bebelplatz, so you can't miss it.

This is the site of the May 10, 1933 Nazi book burning. You can look through the glass to see the empty bookshelves below. Lots of construction in the area makes the experience less than satisfying - my last visit was much better.

Despite the fact that this square is constantly being built and renovated, its historic importance still resonates. It is here where the Nazis burnt the Jewish books in the 1930's in the infamous act that was the first of many horrors to come. There's a...More

A memorial is erected at the center of the Plaza that is a 2 x 2 glass window in the pavement to an underground chamber of empty book shelves. The memorial remembers the location of 1933 student book burnings and the destruction of ideas. The...More

Half of this square looks fantastic - so amazing, beautiful buildings. Sadly, the other half of the square is covered in scaffolding and hoarding so you can't really see it.

Originally known as Opera Platz, it is surrounded by the University, the Opera and the Law Center. Famed for being the site of the 1933 book burning and has a memorial to the event. Has been undergoing contruction for quite some time which discourages visitations.

Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights
like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum
Island. The central location makes this one of the
city's most expensive places to live. It is here the
oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence
of some significant transformations, as well. The
gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets
between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given
