- paulfalconer01Chesterfield, United Kingdom597 contributionsNice spot - world ClockThis is a nice open area of Berlin, with many little shops and eateries. The world clock is a structure from the days of the Berlin Wall. It shows the time difference if countries around the world and a great spot to use as a meeting pointVisited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 7 October 2023
- shacklestonRedcar, United Kingdom1,700 contributionsMust visitVisited for the Christmas Market just as night was falling. Great range of stalls and one of the better markets. Although there is a lot of commonality to them all. Other sites are here, passing on the German names, the town hall, elaborate fountain, church and the modern drum like clock.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 January 2024
- Paraskevi AAthens, Greece9 contributionsNot the best part of BerlinIt smells bad, its dirty, homeless people at the park, garbidges on the streets, broken glasses. On the other hand it is full of shops and with good transportation. If you seek for any kind of info dont ask the germans they won't answer you in english even if they know how to speak. Ask the immigrants, most of them they know how to speak english, they are more polite and helpful.Visited March 2024Travelled on businessWritten 8 March 2024
- June ASurrey, United Kingdom2,757 contributionsThe heart of BerlinThis is the very heart of Berlin - literally where east met west and slap bang in the middle of town. The area does feel a little run down but is nevertheless is bustling and full of life with all the usual shops and services and a short walk to the River. As one of the main interchanges everyone will pass through here at some point.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 14 April 2024
- David DFerndown, United Kingdom19 contributionsAn interesting break, would recommend to allStayed at the Holiday Inn Express near Alexanderplatz. Very clean, lovely staff, excellent breakfasts. Location great for visiting the places of interest. Nice walk by river at rear of hotel and plenty of reasonable eating places nearby. People helpful and no sign of trouble.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 August 2024

Very good shopping area in Berlin. Lots of cafe's / restaurants in the vicinity. The C/A shop is great bought 8 clothing items including jeans, tshirts and jumpers for €65.95 very good prices. Customer service is alright but I have noticed that customer service in Berlin can be kind of hit and miss.

We stayed here in the tall hotel alongside the platz .
Very central location , bus tours stop outside , underground and overground trains nearby . Downloaded the app for using the electric scooters , there was always one nearby and great for getting about on . Would recommend this as a place to stay . Plenty of food and shopping options and directly beside the tv tower .

Really grim and filthy. Lots of litter and graffiti - not really a spot you would want to stop and eat or have a drink.
The staff in the station are astoundingly rude when simply asked which train to get on; so much so I genuinely just laughed because it fit the stereotype of unnecessarily shouty German man so perfectly.
This is my fourth time in Berlin and all areas have definitely declined. Just not very pleasant.

Alexanderplatz in Berlin is a bustling and vibrant square that offers a wide range of activities. The architecture is impressive, featuring iconic buildings such as the Fernsehturm and the World Clock. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes to explore, as well as a lively atmosphere and entertainment. The square is also a major transportation hub and a great starting point for visiting other parts of the city. It's definitely worth a visit to experience the lively atmosphere and see the iconic buildings.

While visiting Berlin with a tour group, we had an opportunity to see the highlights of Alexanderplatz. Unfortunately, it was a foggy day so we didn’t see the famous Weltzeituhr (the world clock).
Alexanderplatz (sometimes called Alex) is the largest public square in Germany, located in Berlin’s Mitte district. It is named after the Russian Tsar Alexander. Home of the iconic TV Tower, 74 meters high above the town. Many historical sites are within walking distance. For example, City Hall, seat of the city’s government, Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Cathedral and Museum Island.
A nice neighborhood with shops, restaurants, cinemas and hotels, it has been a popular film location. Worthwhile visiting.

Alexanderplatz is basically a shopping area that is world famous. There is a really cool clock/globe that shows the time around the world.
I felt the desire to get a tram to Alexanderplatz, Jason Bourne style, being a huge fan of the movies!
The square is undergoing some construction work as of the time of writing this but is it is still a great place to visit. There is a big shopping centre named Alexa hidden behind a building.
Plenty of places to eat nearby.

by the time me and my friends were there there was some specific event going on, lots of beer, sausages, music and fun. We were not supposed to go there but then somehow found ourselves spending an afternoon there. Also nice shops with souvenirs and stuff.

At this lively square named after Tsar Alexander I, you can still feel the GDR vibes.
The Weltzeituhr (World clock), the Brunnen der Völkerfreundschaft (Fountain of International Friendship), and the Fernsehturm – East Berlin’s famous television tower are located here.
The square is an important transport junction for the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, regional trains, trams, and buses.

This is a place located next to Alexanderplatz metro station. It has lots of restaurants which play music and these serve local beer and snacks. There are kiosks selling knick-knacks. There are toilets which have ticketed entry so this ensures the place is clean and hygienic.

Hi, please recommend some local bars for German beers in Alexanderplatz? If they have beer gardens or sit-outs, that would be perfect. Thanks!
Written 8 July 2018
As the others say, if you walk around you will find some down the streets that are quite nice or Visit karl marx Allee and you will find a few (this is where the Berlin beer festival is held).
