One of the hippest areas of Berlin. A good choice for a weekend day out, especially if you combine it with the Victoria Park which is located within walking distance. The choices in food are great. There is a variety of street food, cafes and restaurants for all tastes (Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Burgers, Greek, Mexican etc).

Nice street but besides the foodmarket there's not really much to do or to see. The foodmarket is cosy and it's definately worth a visit if you are in the neighbourhood.

Cool and hip area to stroll around. It is very popular with locals and tourists with lots of coffee shops and bars. Great to just sit down and watch people and hipsters passing by. You will also find a few cute shops there.

Take the U-Bahn to Mehringdamm then go east on Bergmanstrasse for a little shopping. The junk shops that used to be here have mostly disappeared, but did meet some Syrian immigrants keeping the trade alive with some bargains. If you know what you're buying, you can negotiate some very favorable prices. To me, the best stop in the Marheineke Markhhalle,... More

I lived a couple minutes away from Bergmannstrasse for about four months, and used to use it for daily life. It is the most wonderful place. The architecture on Bergmannstrasse and to the south is beautiful, the bars are lively, the cafes are excellent, and the knick-knack shops are great for a lazy Saturday. Thoroughly miss living there!

This street is a fantastic place to have coffee, to find strange shops, to have lunch, brunch or dinner. You can find all type of places, all of them haver an interest!

I have lived in Berlin for six months now and favor this area a lot more than the ever-busy Kottbusser Damm or Hermannplatz. The selection of restaurants is fantastic for Berlin (which can sometimes lack enough choice) and the shop owners are wonderfully friendly. The only bad experience I have had was in Kamiko restaurant ( number 89, next to... More

It may have been the time of year or just not for us. This little part of Berlin did not excite us. Just a street in my view, ordinary.

I could have spent a month here and had breakfast, lunch and dinner at a different place for each meal and still not covered all the options. The market is great too. Certainly recommended.

Filled with interesting shops, cafes, restaurants and surrounded by beautiful architecture, Bergmannstrasse is not the grungiest part of Berlin. It's just effortlessly fun and exciting. Finish with the photo booth and the indoor market, or keep going to visit the cemetery. In any case, a lovely place to visit.

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
