Great Berlin landmark, but it's surrounded by embassies so it can get quite boring after you took two or three pictures. It's a must when in Berlin, but don't plan to stay there too long.

I was unaware before our visit that the gate was actually on the East Berlin side of the wall. It has been brought back to its original glory and the entire area around it has been built back up and you would never know what it looked like before the wall came down. The gate itself is huge and quite... More

One of the few sights in Berlin that is original and well worth seeing. Brings back memories of highly memorable events.

This was a great stopping location on a bike tour. Good overall history lesson of Berlin and the German people. Very busy spot. Do not respond to the clipboard people. Check out the hotel made famous by Michael Jackson.

Soak up the history that this Gate embodies. Its place in history throughout all the travails of Germany is unmatched.

This was something Always heard about so had to be seen. We strolled around it and through the middle but soon became aware that we were actually walking in the road and bikes had precedence -- so do be careful!

If you imagine what these gates have witnessed in 20th century. The Nazi parades, the rising and falling of the Berlin wall. Don;t miss it.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
