The museum is situated in a villa at Wannsee, an upscale Berlin suburb located at the banks of the beautiful Lake Wannsee. It is possible to reach the museum by S train to the Wannsee station and a bus stop is also near the villa. If you arrive by car it should be noted that parking in front of the villa is very limited.

The villa dates from 1910 and was owned by Max Liebermann, a Berlin native, famous painter, and president of the Prussian Academy of Arts. In 1927 he was even declared an honorary citizen of Berlin. Liebermann was a Jew and after the 1933 laws he was forced to leave his posts and the Nazis later took over his villa.

The Max Liebermann Society was founded in 1995 and re-opened the villa as a museum in 2006. Although most of Liebermann’s own works were lost, the Society has done a great job in creating this museum, which focuses on both Liebermann’s family, life, and works. The historical garden at the banks of the lake is beautiful and is definitely worth seeing. A nice café on the terrace is also available.

Place to avoid as the museum staff were very rude. The only thing that was reasonable was the food in the cafe and the garden outside. We would never go here again and also advise all our fellow Australian travellers to avoid the place.

If the weather is sunny, and you fancy a few hours outside the city, then a visit to Wannsee and the Liebermann villa is to be highly recommended. Max Liebermann was one of Germany's foremost painters in the early part of the twentieth century. The villa and its garden was built for him, completed 1910. Take the S7 to Wannsee station, and then either 20 minutes walk, or 2 stops on the bus, brings you to the property. 10 euros entrance (September 2020). There are a dozen or so of his paintings on display. There are also displays (in english and german) on the (jewish) family, the house, and the garden. The garden, which has been restored to how it was when the Liebermann family lived there, runs down to the lake. It is a joy. Coffee on the terrace is wonderful. The villa is one of many fine houses on the banks of the Wannsee lake and surrounding waterways. Lakes cruises of 1.5 hours duration are well worth doing. Boats leave from the jetty some 5 minutes walk from the S bahn; on the way to the Liebermann villa.

Even on a cold and rainy autumn day the special atmosphere of the place was noticeable. It‘s a small wonder how they saved this gem and turned it into such an amazing history and art lesson.

What a nice romantic bourgeois villa-property: with a large and well maintained garden overlooking the Wannsee. The garden with its tea house, benches , flower boxes: an oasis to enjoy the beauty of the landscape and to relax. The Villa well restored— with some 400 oil paintings, pastels and prints. Worth to have a decent meal or a nice cake with coffee or a glass of wine and— on sunny days— to enjoy the view on the garden and the Wannsee and look at the sailing boats. At the ticket shop( at the entrance) you can buy books abs souvenirs.

The gardens are gorgeous on the Wannsee lake. Five minutes walk from the Wannsee conference villa. Very relaxing. We had lunch in the garden.

We took the S train on a day pass in 20 minutes from Berlin. Then a bus in 10 minutes. Only takes 5 minutes from the famous Wannsee villa by foot. Don't miss it.

Sad history. Mrs Lieberman committed suicide at the age of 85 during the 2 hours the Gestapo gave her to prepare herself for deportation. You can see a letter to her Doctor a few days before saying she had been notified of her pending deportation and that she is beyond herself as she knew what would happen. I believe the letter asks him to bring her the medication.

Sad but ironically such a beautiful place. There are also some Max Lieberman paintings. We had lunch in the garden.

After busy days in Berlin city centre choose this as my last stop on an extended stay after a workshop. Getting there is easy on the public transport ... s7 and then bus 114 for a couple of stops. It was a lovely sunny day when I made my visit which showed the garden off at its best. The garden provided insperation for Liebermanns painting. Trees provide a range of patterns from dappled shade to the interesting textured bark and juxtaposition of the birch trees. The water of the Wannsee glistening as a backdrop. The cafe is small yet offers quite a range of cakes and snacks. The 2 blokes serving clearly are enjoying being there providing friendly and congenial service. The Klee Liebermann exhibition is small yet enough to explore before enjoying sitting on the cafe terrace and soaking up everything this delightful place has to offer. A joy.

it is not only the place where Liebermann lived, it is not only the garden or the pictures to look at, it is the deep look into Germanys history and that what can happen if democracy does not react to racism

The wannsse villa is a very well kept monument which allows you a short glimps at the horrific period of the holocaust and its most darring plans of the last solution - the elemination of the jewish popylation of europe. The villa is very nice and big, located around the amasing wannsee lake and is a very interesting museum which allows you to easily understand what was the reality during the 30s and 40s on Germann and Europe soil from a jewish point of view, very well explaind along avery interesting audio guided tour available allso in hebrew and well desinged and presented. Dont miss. The amasing villa structure and view stand in ashocking contrust to what was decided at the time. EVerything is well presented and documented and free of charge. Allso accible to children able to read and listen. Dont miss

We then took the bus to Liebermann Villa am Wannsee. Such an interesting house and garden and such a tragic end of it all. There are paintings of Max Liebermann exhibited in his house

The recreated gardens are amazing and serve as a living example for Impressionist painting. Liebermann painted different aspects of his garden, fewer than 200 of his works survived. It is very sad that there is virtually nothing left of the interior of the house, the house having been forcibly sold by Leibermann’s widow, Martha to the Nazi regime.
