There was no one in the museum other than me. You will see why when you climb up the to top of the Marienburg Fortress. It is a long climb. The ton needs to put a funicular or shuttle from the bottom of the river bridge. But the climb was worth the effort.

This is the museum that u find at the fortress and it is definitely worth a visit. Tickets are not expensive at all (2 EUR for students, 4 EUR normal price), but it offers diverse thematics and exponats - paintings, sculptures, guns, furniture, clothes, accessories, porcelains, etcc. - all kind of things from different periods in history. I was impressed... More

be sure to visit this museum (won't take all that long)--along with Marienburg castle. Highlights are the works of Tilman Riemenschneider, a virtuoso sculptor in wood and stone on the cusp of the renaissance. He was decidedly local and yet transcends such limitations--never mind his jingoistic reception in late 19th to mid 20th century Germany. And don't miss the original... More

This is a museum with one of the largest collections of artwork and wepaons I've ever seen. It's not merely the large and obviosu pieces that stand out, it's the small pieces, figurines, silver and crystal ware, and themed sculptures such as mythological figures, or figures representing the continents of Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Huge keys, 15 foot... More

Really excellent collections, which have been well arranged and some, such as the Bronze Age exhibits are amongst the best I have seen. Unfortunately all signs are in German and so it is difficult for the average foreigner to interpret exactly what the objects are or what they are for. Equally all the paintings and other exhibits only have explanations... More

I previously had covered the Alte Mainbrücke which you cross coming down the Domstrasse passing the "4Røhrenbrunnen" on your left, and to for a walk up to the Marienburg Fortress, commonly referred to the Festung. From there you get a viel of the most of the city of Würzburg. It also houses the "Mainfränkische Museum" a worthwhile visit to learn... More

I'm biased, as I came to Wurzburg to see the best collection of Tilman Riemanschneider work in the world, which did not disappoint. Also good selection of literature on him (the tourist centre in town had nothing,) Would have liked to have time to spend on the rest of the collections, (lots of Baroque) but the building itself is worth... It's a 30 minute, at times a steep walk along the foot path to the from the old bridge to the museum. Driving your car and parking it in the Fortress area is an option but there is a fee. I walked the footpath. I also combined the Mainfrankisches and Furstenbaum museum with one ticket price of (6 Euros) and... More

Beautifully displayed, with light and space to enjoy each sculpture, this is an amazing collection of Riemenschneider's work. The staff in the museum are also very helpful and informative. From the museum there are good views of Wurzburg and the river. We also saw a good display of wine-making equipment with huge wine presses. I wish we had had longer... More
