there was no historical interpretation, but just fascinating to walk the wall and imagine what life would have been like way back when

Well preserved walls give one the opportunity to walk round most of the town and have glimpses of interesting old houses, gardens and views over the countryside. Can be slippery if wet.

Wonderful small city of unparalleled quality of buildings. Best way to see the city is from the town walls

We always enjoy city wall walks and this one did not disappoint. Beautiful views of Rothenburg and the surrounding countryside are your reward for climbing up the tower along the wall. Be sure to take the time for this.

No visit to Rothenberg would be complete without a walk along the ramparts of this historic old town which also gives you a wonderful view of the old buildings.

The town walls are quite impressive to be still intact and in such good shape. They are kilometers long and surround the whole city as far as I know. We did not go around the whole wall, since we also wanted to visit the city...More

The wall was built around 1390 although some parts were destroyed during the Second World War, much of it remained intact. Very interesting sight to see for those who haven't seen many old cities.

A lot of the stones and brick have names on them of people who donated to the restoration. In the snow do watch your step (everywhere) but you will have a magical view in the snow. Enjoy!

There are many places to get up onto the wall. I would recommend simply walking along the wall until you reach a staircase. There are plenty of these access points along the way.
