I think it best to hire a walking tour guide the first time to visit. There is so much history and you will miss it if you just walk the walls. I walked here on crutches the first time, though it was a little difficult.

We only walked a small portion of the wall, but it was a great place to get a good view of the town and see what an old medieval, walled town really looked like.

This is one of the most delightful German towns we have visited. One can walk anywhere and we did. We had the opportunity to walk around much of the city on the town wall. From this vantage point we could see not only the town but also the valley below. Beautiful to say the least. While there, we were fortunate... More

Walking the walls of Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a unique experience. You can really get a sense of what life was like a long time ago.

A great hike to do in a couple hours. Lots of stairs and narrow passageways. Beautiful spots to take pictures. I would recommend some running shoes. Be prepared to duck your head at a few points!

Like a Hop In Hop out way to tour the city! Amazing thing to do when in Rothenburg. Gives a great insight into the houses and gardens of the people of Rothenburg too. Nice easy walk and it is a must do when visiting.

Do not hesitate if you decide to see the whole town in just 30 minutes. Start at the imperial city museum and leave at the exit of Goldener Hirsch hotel. The views from the view point next to the hotel are breathtaking!

I loved this place! Food was excellent, bakeries are excellent, the sites are absolutely gorgeous! We spent an entire day in this walled city, it was one of the few walled cities that made it through the wars. I was in awe of the beauty and history. I felt as if I lived there 200 years ago! there are hotels... More

Do go for a stroll on the wall to get a feel of this medieval walled city. It is free anytime of the day. Gorgeous views at certain parts of the wall. We walked half the wall and went down to explore the town.

I would recommend not doing this walk in the winter so you can stop to read the signs and possibly having a guide to tell you about the various points of interest.
