Hike up the stairs and travel around the town on the ancient walls of Rothenburg and enjoy the views of the town and the surrounding countryside. A great way to start your morning.

Visit early in the morning or at sunset to skip the crowds who are on the buses. We grabbed coffee and croissants and ate breakfast up there and it was very nice. The walk from the spitaltor to the klingentor took about 1 hour at...More

We did only a part of the encircling town walls, but it was well worth it to get a sense of what it must have been like to live in a medieval town.

You can walk the ramparts surrounding the entire town. Be sure to take the time to explore the ramparts. They provide a unique vantage point over the entire town and surrounding countryside.

The walls are a great place to take an early morning walk around town. The sunlight is great for picture taking looking down on the town. And many parts are covered so you can even do it when it’s raining. Highly recommend it!

This is a must do. Recipe for successful Rothenburg visit: 1. Walk the walls (allow 2-3 hrs), 2. Download and do the FREE Rick Steve’s audio tour, 3. Do the night watchman tour (8 euro pp) 4. Watch the town clock show (on each hour...More

The medieval walls surrounding the city are very well preserved and give an idea of the medieval defensive fortifications. There are flights of steps at several places where you can climb up to a narrow stone and wood platform which allows you to walk and...More

Part of the wall was destroyed during WW II. The plaques are for people who donated from around the world for the wall to be rebuilt. I believe that the donation was around 1500 US dollars.

There are many places to get up onto the wall. I would recommend simply walking along the wall until you reach a staircase. There are plenty of these access points along the way.
