If you look from the castle garden down the valley of the Tauber you will see a funny building. It is a mixture between a tower and a residential house. This small water castle was constructed in 1388 and has been the home of the legendary mayer Heinrich Toppler. The building is furnished with furniture from the 16th until the... More

You could see this impressive structure from the walls of the town and it was strangely awesome. I wish we had the time to take a look more closely at the structure. If I return it will be on my 'Must Do' list.

We drove by this one day and I didn't know it was a public building. Missed opportunity, but will plan for a future trip.

Found this by chance as we were driving around. Looked interesting but did not see away to go inside.

This cute house is sadly closed indefinitely due to the owner's death per the Tourist Information Center. I am happy that I asked while I was there getting a map. I was however able to get some amazing photos of it from the Castle Gardens.

I can confirm earlier reports that the castle was closed. When I arrived there was a hand written sign in German that loosely translated to "go to the right". You had to go to a private residence next door and ask for entrance, then someone went and got another person from a residence next to the castle. They would then... More

From my limited German, I understand that a recent death caused the Toppler Castle to be closed. Regardless, the hike down to it and back was very relaxing. In other words, go for the outdoor experience and not for the museum.

The Toppler Castle is a special place to visit inside the medieval years. Builty partly as a defensive tower, partly as a residence.

Our guide took us by the place. It sits in a small village in the River Taub valley below Rothenburg on the cliff tops above. It is just odd that anyone would build a fortified house like this. According to the guide it was a summer place for some officer of the city, but it looked too small to be... More

Das Topplerschlosschen is a small tower with a wee house on top of it. It lies outside the town walls. My wife and I walked from the Burgtor, down a steep path that took us across a field, over a stream, and a very short distance along a small road. It took about 20/25 minutes. It costs 1.5 euros to... More
