this 13th century tower, which formerly served as a jailhouse, is located on one of the main streets, between the Rodertor gate and the main square. There is a stork's nest on the adjoining Hotel Markusturm. Both make for a great photo.

This is a neat tower on the way from the Markt platz to the Rodertor on Rodergasse. It has a nice clock atop it and the street passes right through it. When we looked up we saw a stork perched in a nest at the...More

If you arrive from the Rödertor you will see the mighty hipped roof of the Markus tower. Beside that you will see the "Röderbogen" with its slender glock tower and the pointed tower attachment from the 12th century. They were part of the first city...More

We happened to be staying at the Romantic Hotel Markusturm which abuts the tower and old wall. As a result whenever we wanted to go into the old town we passed through it, probably 15-20 times in the 2 days we stayed in Rothenburg. It...More

Perhaps the view that epitomises Rotherburg old town the best. The houses just outside the old gate of Marksturn are amongst the best in town, and the view through the gate goes all the way to the town square. Check out the stork's nest at...More

Seems like this was the first wall of the city and in 1844 it served as a prison. There's a beautiful clock on the tower with S steeple. There are plenty of restaurants and stores around this area.

These two adjoining structures are part of the city's oldest fortified wall, dating to around 1200. Virtually every visitor to Rothenburg will walk through the arch and snap a photo of it, often without knowing what it is. Take a few moments to view the...More

Built around the 12th century when the first city wall was erected, the Markus Tower and Roder Arch were probably the oldest remants of this Bavarian Town. Behind the tower is the Buttelhaus, a former prison and now the city's archive. This is quite close...More
