Overview
More
The Jewish Culture Museum was founded in 1985 in the impressive Augsburg synagogue. It documents the rich culture and checkered history of the Jews in Augsburg and Swabia from the Middle Ages to the present. The new permanent exhibition, installed in November 2006, presents this history as a story of migration, as a succession of settling and expulsion, of integration and social exclusion, of self-assertion and assimilation. It focuses on the relationship between the Jewish minority and the Christian majority, also depicts the changes in religious practice in the course of time, showing Jewish history as an integral part of Augsburg and Swabian history.

Must see place in Augsburg to learn about jewish culture and jewish history in Augsburg and beyond. They also offer lectures and other activities, so it's worth to stop by and check it.

In the historic synagoge is a great ambient for traditional jewish music. It is directly between the main station and the inner city, so good to have a look there when you come to augsburg by train.

Easy walking distance from downtown Augsburg, a small city that has more to offer tourists than one might think, the Kulturmuseum is an addition to the large shul/temple/synagogue that is in the same building. Frankly, the synagogue is the most impressive thing here. Surprisingly massive,...More
