These very visible remains of Roman Empire occupation graphically emphasize both the age and strategic importance of Regensburg. This was an early stop on our guided walking tour of the old town area and well worth it from a historical perspective.

Coming from the USA we don't see things that are really old and it it amazing something built over 2,000 years ago can still be here. It is wonderful how they have incorporated it into the modern city and still kept a piece of history....More

Interesting piece of Regensburg history skillfully integrated into the city architecture. There is a Sign (in German) that explains the history and dates of use.

This is the remains of a gate, which was part of a Roman fort built around 2000 years ago. This is the only Roman gate left, which is located in the North of the Alps.
