This was a pleasant surprise for as I thought it was just an old clock tower but this is actually an imposing entrance to the subway station. Very nice.

We mostly used this towers as a landmark for walking around this section of Nuremberg, as it was near our hotel and our go-to breakfast spot (Der Beck). In addition to having a neat, historic look, the local u-bahn station entrance is literally under the tower, which makes for an awesome entry/exit to and from the system.

Weisser Turm (White Tower) is a medieval tower which dates back to around 1250 that was once part of the city fortifications in the Middle Ages. Now it sits on its own in Ludwigsplatz in the city centre next to the interesting Ehekarussell statue fountain.
The tower is made of sandstone with a pitched roof. It includes a gateway entrance which is now used as an entrance to the underground Metro Station situated here. Have a look at Weisser Turm while sightseeing in the area and then continue onward with other intended sightseeing.

Proudly siting at the west end of Ludwigsplatz lofty White Tower owes its name to the white plaster that use to cover its walls. Today, tower serves as an entrance to Nuremberg's Weisser Turm subway station. One of the three U - Bahn lines, which is one of the newest Germany's metro systems. The tower itself has quite interesting history. It was a part of city walls that Nuremberg acquired in 13th century, and so-called Hospital - Gate of city's defence system. The gate's name came from nearby St. Elisabeth Hospital. Along with city's growth, Nuremberg's defence circuit has been moved and extended. In some places old walls were completely torn down, in other they has been rebuilt and new elements were added. During WWII White Tower was seriously damaged. Renovated in 1958, but without white plaster it still looks very impressive amid old town buildings.

The ‘White Tower’ contains a large clock tower and is in one corner of Jacobsplatz. Unusually, it forms the entrance to a U Bahn station. Through the bottom arch and straight onto the escalators! If exiting here, stop to admire the wonderful Fountain directly outside.

Located amid the bustling Jacobsplatz, the White Tower was one of the first structures to be incorporated with the 13th Century fortifications. An impressive structure that is also the entrance to Nuremburg's subway system. Pass through and you will come to the surreal Ehekarussell (See My Review).

I like the Weisser Turm / White Tower because it was housing a metro station, which was cool. Did not find time to discover if people allowed to go upstairs but will check at next visit to Nuremberg.

The Weisser Turm is worth a 2-3 street detour, but it is far from a signature landmark of the city. Its name refers to the white stucco surface that covered the exterior long ago.

Well,I'm not sure why it's named white tower as long as it doesn't look white at all for me but it's one of the most beautiful towers in Nuremberg. And there are quite a lot...
An interesting and unusual fact:right beneath this tower is a metro entrance.A nice symbiosis between old and new.
