The Kaiserburg is one of the main attractions in Nuremberg: from the other sightseeing we did, this place drew the most visitors. One can enter the castle without a ticket, although I would advise buying one if you want to see the museum, the 50m deep fountain, and the Sinwellturm. All three are worth it, in my opinion. I was a bit disappointed by the museum. If you're a German speaker, you might not, but otherwise, there's a lot of information that's not available in English. If you don't speak German, you might want to ask for an audio guide when you buy the tickets. Some exhibits (not all of them) are marked as having information in the audio guide. We didn't get audio guides since after visiting the German National Museum we expected that all information would be available in English as well. As a history buff, the museum shop was a letdown. There were barely any history books at all, other than just a few tours and guides, and out of those, very few of them were in English.

I walked to the castle grounds from my hotel in the early morning. It was a few miles and a good start to the day. Once I arrived, seeing the castle grounds and gardens were beautiful. You also get a very nice view of the city from the top. Once in the tour, you got to see old weaponry and learn some history of the area. Well worth the trip, and better than other higher rated attractions in the area. Well worth it.

The castle rises over Nuremberg and offers great views of the city. Inside you have several admission offers and we chose the Palace tour with the museum (largely weapons - but included with the palace). You can also visit the Sinwell Tower and Deep well, but we did not have time. A lot of the castle was destroyed in WW2, but the double chapel and some other rooms remain, and there was a lot of information about Nuremberg´s place in the Holy Roman Empire. There is also an attractive garden.

Up the hill from the main town. Besides walking up the incline to the main gates there are also numerous stairs between floors of the main palace so be prepared for some walking. Tickets come for either the main palace or the well and tower or as a combination. The combination is the best deal and we managed to race through all three is just about an hour and a half. The Deep Well presentation is only in German but there is an English printed guide and our guide spoke English and answered any questions we had. The Sinwell tower is essentially a viewing platform over the city and worth it if you can make the climb. The palace had some interesting features like the Double Chapel but none of the items had an English translation – having Google Translate and an internet connection were a nice addition. Displays of armor were interesting both for the evolution of armor for protection but also for the evolution of weapons that turned armor into essentially ceremonial dress.

We stopped here to fill some extra time in our day; I wish we had realized how great it was so that we would have had more time. The whole site was really pretty. The history museum was informative and engaging. Sadly we didn't have time to see more.

The building had been destroyed during WWII but also had been dramatically renovated (and simplified) during the Nazi period to make it more broadly “German” rather than Bavarian - there are many photos of before and after. Great views of the old town from the gardens/hill. The exhibition of weapons is well done - the other exhibitions are rather limited. It is an interesting area to walk around but at times can be challenging - it is steep in places.

Kaiserburg Castle ( the Imperial Castle) which served as the residence of Germany's Kaiser and kings between 1050 and 1571 was almost completely destroyed in WW2. Immediately after the war, Rudolf Esterer rebuilt the complex almost exactly on the principle of "creative conservation". It stands at the northern end of the old town and is a relatively easy walk.

Kaiserburg Nürnberg is a palace included in the Bavarian Castle Pass (14 day or annual). Our family visited the Kaiserburg Nürnberg in Sept. 2024. We found that the castle ground is standard and normal. However, what shined was the history explanation of the castle, the view from the Castle Tower (included in the ticket price), and especially the excellent tour given at the well of the castle. We find that the young man who was given the well of the castle tour that day to be particular energetic, and gave an excellent English tour (which were the majority of the audience that day, only one guest indicated that she can speak German). His witty narrative helped us appreciating the construction and the maintenance needed for the well of the castle, and greatly improved our experience.
