About
Nuremberg has been a city of toys since the Middle Ages. With an abundance of extraordinary exhibits from antiquity to the present, Nuremberg's world famous Toy Museum presents the "world in miniature" in 1,400 square meters of space, featuring dolls, shops, tin figures and tin toys, wooden toys and a large model train set (Track S), as well as more recent toys, such as Lego, Barbie, Playmobil, and Matchbox. The imaginatively designed children's area in the attic is staffed with trained educational personnel. Summer attractions include a large outdoor playground and a museum cafe in the secluded inner courtyard. There are audio guides tailored for adults and children to escort you through the museum, and also a droll photographic treasure hunt.

This is a cool museum if you are interested in toys. It had an awesome collection of tin toys, mechanical/engineering toys, and trains along with other toys - dolls, doll houses, kitchens, etc.

BEST PLACE TO BE IN NUREMBURG! Do not miss this and be sure to allocate plenty of time. We stumbled into this when we only had a few minutes before some tour started, but we all LOVED it and would have gladly stayed there for hours. This was interesting and nostalgic for everyone. Our kids loved seeing the old toys and LOVED seeing the toys they played with as kids. the adults practically went back in time. For an hour we were all kids playing with toys. While most the (amazing) displays were behind glass, there is plenty of stuff to touch and play with to engage kids of all ages. Truly, this was a unique and wonderful shared experience for all of us. Plus, just outside was a quaint alleyway with a wonderful coffee shop and garden area. The only way I know to BE A KID AGAIN! You will leave feeling great.

Fun for the young or the young at heart. The technological and cultural progression of toys through the years was fascinating. And some of the older toys were themost fascinating of all - the 19th century dolls' houses/rooms were quite astonishing in their detail

This is a fabulous museum. The displays are absolutely fabulous. Many opportunities to touch (and play with) a wide variety of toys. The first floor had an impressive set of displays from many different parts of the world. An incredible look at the interests of a wide variety of areas across the globe. The second floor had a great exhibit of toy soldiers and dolls. The dollhouse collection made us wonder how they could ever make such a detailed display in such a miniature scale. The train exhibit was obviously done with love. So many details including cross-over tracks, train cars, driving cars, train stations, rock quarries, etc. The exhibit of the toys from different decades included many characters from the United States. The erector set displays made us want to build our own projects. Multiple displays of cars had us trying to name each of the manufacturers and models. I could go on but it really must be seen in person.

Some very interesting and nostalgia-inducing displays. The giant puppet houses are particularly fascinating, but overall not overly accessible for non-German speakers! A few more labels in English would be amazing!

Brilliant museum set over 3 levels detailing the history of toys from the Victorian era right up to present day. The dolls houses on the first level are absolutely beautiful and the "play" area for adults & children alike on the third floor is brilliant. Highly recommend.

Fantastic retrospective on the importance and value of play in our lives. We saw just as many adults as children, and I appreciated the amount of exhibits and hands on displays geared for all ages. At the time there was a special exhibit on racism in toys that was also super interesting. Overall, we easily spent a couple of hours going through all the displays and reliving our childhoods. Minor tip: if you visit other museums on the same day your admission ticket may get you a discounted admission to other locations on the list.

Nuremberg is where toys are very well known. This museum had old old old toys and dolls and was really interesting to see how so many toys have changed over time.

I was actually surprised to see how large it was.

They are currently under renovation and one floor was hut which meant you could not get in without climbing up a steel staircase and I have mobility issues. However, it is amazing! Lots of dolls house rooms and tinplate toys as you would expect from the "home of Toys" The model railway layout was sadly not working which was a shame as its quote lavish..

Stunning collections beautifully displayed. Fine miniature room and shop settings. Incredibly cheap entry fee (and engaging staff at admission desk). Even if you can only spare an hour, go and visit!
